Trick: Update ROM

In this little howto I'll explain how to update every C500:

First you'll need to download this tool:

http://www.mobismart.net/Download/TyphoonNbfTool.zip

Step 1 download the latest rom Update from the Orange Site and the NBFTool

Step 2 Open the update, on the first welcome screen all files are unpacked. Lookup for the NBF file in the temp directory.

Step 3 Open the NBF file with the NBF tool and change the following:

(This is a dutch example. Each country has different settings!)

Manufact. HTC

Model ID. SPV C500

Image Version 4.1.1.4

Language DUTCH

Sec. Ver. 1.1.1.91

Operator ORANGE (or leave empty)

Num sect. 5

Header CRC 0xB9BF3D34

Step 4 Recalculate the header.

Stap 5 Save back to the temp directory

Stap 6 Repeat with the update

Please stay calm at 99%, this can take a while!

What do you mean by 'Step 4 Recalculate the header' how? where does the crc info come from?

i cannot upgrade to ver. 4.1.1.4 from 4.1.8.1 (SLOVAK).

after edit .nbf and run upgrade pocess get ERROR [296]: Upgrade Only

This NBF file cannot be used for your SmartPhone. Please get newer NBF file.

Me too, orange->imate, and imate -> orange again shows this error.

Unfortunately mine has the same problem. I changed it to IMATE's ROM and cannot get back to Orange's

I managed to downgrade/flash back another rom by typing a higher version number in nbftool.

Hi,

just downloaded the NBFTool, when I open an NBF file using the tool it says file loaded but all the information is in a strange coded form like this:

The latest and only one update that Orange UK has released (RUU_v0.995_OrangeUK_v4.1.1.4.exe)

Do you suggest something different?

I have updated my Dutch C500 with the new frenche update...

everything is working fine. except my tomtom. It disconnet my gps so my c500 isn't enable to find my gps.

how come ??

Could you please tell me what the above settings should read, if i am trying to install the French ROM Update (RUU_1.02_OrangeFR_v4.2.2.1_Ship2) on my Orange SPV C500 which currrently has the UK ROM (RUU_v0.995_OrangeUK_v4.1.1.4).

When I open the French ROM in Typhoon I get:

What do I need to change in the above thing to get through with the update?

@sameerhalai- If you've got a UK C500, what's the point in trying to install the French ROM, Orange UK have announced a proper UK update for their C500s is imminent, why not just be patient, instead of leading your phone down a dead end?
