Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 Software needed to access the registry on a smartphone There are a few registry editors available now PHM Registry Editor is one example. This application is not certified, so you will need an application unlocked smartphone. Use caution when playing with the registry, it can be dangerous as the effects of any changes are persistent even after rebooting. Editing the registry is only recommended to users who have experience with the Windows registry as the format is near to identical and the same principles apply. If you have done something wrong and your phone has stopped working You may need to do a Hard Rest to restore the phone to its default factory condition. All data will be lost and you will have to reinstall your applications and contacts again. Some registry keys are normally protected, and can only be changed by a 'root' permission certificate, these include the security settings and other 'essential' settings. They may also be used to create the IPSM after a Hard Reset. Some of these keys CAN be changed using .cab files, but some cannot. Here is a varient of the above editor regeditSTG.zip Be warned this editor can make changes to the protected parts of the phone so use with care as we can not be help responsible for any damage or loss of data caused to your device.
