Continuing the tradition of somewhat off-the-wall naming conventions, but sure to appeal to clamshell fans, PocketInfo.nl are reporting HERE that iMate are set to market the HTC Star Trek device as the iMate Smartflip.

Specifications are unconfirmed at this point (except a formal iMate announcement during 3GSM), but we do know it will be GPRS/EDGE (no UMTS) and will run Windows Mobile 5.

I wondered who the first would be to take this up.

Regarding the name I wonder what agreement has been made with trademarks as Sonamobile are still advertising their own Star Trek Communicator phone.

I kind like it.

Mis having a clamshell phone. don't have to be carefull to damage the screen.

maybe something for the future.

Shame that the screen looks small and that the keys look plasticy.

Any idea when it is due for release?

Hmm, looks promising. Keep an eye on this space. Seen as the c600 looks like a waste in paying for an upgrade, i might give this a wirl if it comes out with wifi!

What exactly is the navigation input for this rather stunning creature? It looks like it could be a Samsung i300-style wheel, but at the same time I wouldn't be too surprised if it was a conventional four-way button-push pad with an 'OK' button in the middle.

God, I hope Orange snaps this puppy up.
