Strange shortcut menus in WM 5.0

Hi all,

The weirdest thing happened to me today. I got up and turned on my SPV C600 as usual. I entered my PIN and went to change the phone into silent mode. So - as usual - I tapped the power button and I was presented with the Power Profile menu. However, where I would normally tap '6' to activate the Silent profile, there was no shortcut for '6'. The Silent Mode shortcut had been replaced with the letter 'F'!

Of course, I couldn't use the keypad to activate the Silent Mode because there is no single 'F' key on the C600! Whats going on???

I also tried the settings menu...

...messaging menu...

In this second messaing menu, there were no shortcuts at all!!!

...and even some 3rd party software - Smart Explorer...

post-60376-1145459306_thumb.jpg post-60376-1145459315_thumb.jpg

Again, no shortcuts available at all

Each of these - and all my other menus - had been replaced with letters for the shortcuts or the shortcuts were missing all together!

Please help me because I really need to get those number shortcut keys back otherwise I have to do an awful lot of scrolling which is extremely time consuming!

Thank guys,

I'm afraid I can't remember exactly what but I beleive that behaviour is caused by a program you may have installed. It has come up on these forums before so someone will be able to put you right. Have you installed any software on your SP recently (ie shortly before you noticed this happening?)

Hi,

Thanks for the speedy response,

I can't remember installing anything unusual except for WM5torage and MobiLuck for Windows Mobile 5 (which doesn't work anyway!)

I overclocked recently to 216Mhz using OmapClock but I don't suppose thats it?

Hi James.

I found this on the modaco forum:

Change order of profiles via regedit stg

[...]

Tip2:

To change the order of the profiles in the profile menu

HKCU/ControlPanel/Profiles/*Select a profile*

Value [Order]

Change this nr to whatever order you want to, remember to change the one you are replacing to, for instance you shouldnt have two profiles with the ordernr 4!

Tip3:

To change the order of the profiles/shortcuts in the quicklaunch menu

HKCU/Software/Microsoft/QuickApp/

Value [1-6]

Change this nr to whatever order you want to, remember to change the one you are replacing to, for instance you shouldnt have two profiles with the ordernr 4 and you should also always have all the numbers from 1 to 6

This might be usefull if you do not want to have the profile on your homescreen and rather use a button on the phone for it, then change nr 1 to 6 and 6 to 1, if you want to turn off the phone now just push and hold the power button, locking keypad is still done with holding the red phone and all profiles as well as the flightmode still can be chosen without pressing the more button...

Maybe you can try to look in the registry and tell us what's going on inside it?some strange lines or stuff like this.this MUST be editable in the registry (such as the "no comming appointments" in the homescreen phrase which can be changed via regedit too)

please tell us.

Hi,

I fixed it! Yay, back to number shortcuts now!

Turns out it was bluetooth related! On Tuesday I bonded with a Sony Ericsson K700 so that it could send me a file. When you bond, you are presented with 3 stages:

1) You+the person both enter the same passkey

2) You choose a name for the device

3) You select services

On the 3rd stage, the only service is usual Serial Port (not quite sure what that is! Anyone?), see below:

However, when I bonded with the K700, I was presented with 2 tickbox options; Services and Input Device. I ticked both out of interest and hit next. The file was transferred and I thought that that was all great. The 'Input Device' option must have been what changed the shortcuts because when I removed the K700 device from my Bonded Devices list, the menus returned back to normal!!! Yay!

So can anyone offer insight into what these "Services" are and do? I'm sure we'd all love to know!

Turns out it was bluetooth related!

You're absolutly right. :P

It's a bug that makes your phone think it's connected to a BT-keyboard. I found something a while ago but cannot remember from whom I copied this (my apologies).

Fix: Change the HasKeyBoard DWORD to 0 at:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell and reboot your phone. My

thinkoutside bluetooth keyboard still works and I have numbers instead of

letters.

So when your phone next time connects to another phone, leave "input device" unchecked or edit your registry afterwards... ;)

Yours,

DJ

-edit-

forgot enlightment ;)

Serial Port - does just what it is called. It establishes a serial connection between both devices so they can communicate to exchange files, data, etc.

Input Device - alows the other device to act as input device (for example: remote control of windows apps via BT-Remote). Makes no sense with two phones... don't know if it even may function
