Guest mikevans75 Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 I just purchased an HTC S720. I really like it but I'm a bit concerned about the fortitude of the keyboard slider mechanism. I know HTC is known for good build quality. Has anyone noticed anything to be concerned about regarding this? I find that holding the phone feels a bit "springy" and the keyboard slides a bit when using the phone normally.
Guest Doktor M@buse Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 Same for me. It's such a nice phone with tons of features, but the slider makes me sick. Maybe somtime anyone has a solution how to take the slider apart and fix the problem. However I don't want to miss the phone.
Guest Griff_FFOC Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 yeah. the keypad on mine rocks about when pressing the left and right sides. I'd love it to be tighter and not move as i try and press the volume or camera buttons.

Mine's nice and tight, I did drop it the other day and now it feels a bit more spongy when it's closed but it might just be my imagination, I didn't really look at it in detail before! I definitely don't get any rocking either when it's open or closed.

I definitely don't get any rocking either when it's open or closed. Its nothing to be worried about, its because the spring is progressive, i.e the first few millimetres of pressure the spring is at minimal load, a few centimetres and the spring tension begins to build and at the last stage of slide the spring is highly compressed giving the feel of more tension. HTC would of not been able to improve this unless they fixed the spring in a different position, the problem with this is it sends manufacturing and maintenance costs upward which then means the purchase / contract costs associated with it would be higher. A small amount of play is acceptable. Thanks
