Maybe this should be put Sticky somewhere ?

Installing a CAB file does NOT require a file explorer. You can do it quite easiely as follows:

ON THE PC :

1) SPV in craddle (connected to PC via USB)

2) Check that sync is OK (green Active Sync icon!)

3) Click on Active Sync to open it

4) Click on the "Explorer" tab (in Active Sync)

5) Open "My Smartphone"

6) Open "IPSM"

7) Open "Windows"

8) Open "Start Menu"

9) Copy the CAB file in "Accessories" (drag and drop).

ON THE SPV

1) Open "Programs" (in Home)

2) Open "Accessories"

3) Open the CAB file (it is in the Accessories list), it will install it

That's all!

if you leave the SPV showing Accessories while you do the transfer via Active Sync you would then have to press the Back key out of accessories and then go back in.

It's best to place the cab in Start MenuAcessories

If you do that then you do not need to turn the phone off,

as opening "Acessories" the file will be there waiting for you ;)

one thing I have never done when installing cabs.

This information is posted on a regular basis but nice idea, cheers :)

Could another way be to just copy the cab file to the startup folder in windows ipsm so that if you turn the phone off and on again it will run automatically?or would that course problems?

Agreed. In "Accessories", then you don't have to turn the phone off/on. Only the Start Menu level is cached, for speed reason. I'll fix that.

I think this info should be in s ticky thread somewhere, or under "Articles". Of course this is well known by all of us, but not by SPV beginners.

What do you think ?

As posted above it's not necessary but as for putting it in Startup?

Too many things going on when you phone starts up best to keep it nice and simple

and follow the above posts ;).

I agree, Startup is not a good idea, it may be dangerous. You have no control on what must start at power-on and in what order, so it's better to open it as described.

I agree but give me time ;) I'll look at it tomorrow and also add about failed installs as well

As that seems to be the topic I post about the most :)

Like I said slow connection at the moment for some reason :?

EDIT I'll move it now and tidy the thread up a bit, so please do not be offended if I editRemove posts

What happens if an install fails?

Ok when this happens sometimes this can then prevent future apps from

being installed until the following procedure is done.

Hopefully you will have some form of file manager software installed on your phone (if not, why not;))

examples are All-Explorer or if your phones been decertified Smart-Explorer.

You need the file manager app on your phone as Activsync will not be able to see the location

of the failed install.

Using the explorer app go to

IPSMWindowsAppMgrInstall

This is where the failed install will be hiding so all you need to do is to either run the

install from that location or just delete it and start again.

This happens quite often, I have posted this fix many times.

Twice this week alone

That's it I've had enough for tonight, this connection is doing my head in.

I'll finish editing this topic tomorrow. ;)

Welcome to the site

Have a look at this post here as it is a similar problem.

Your phone needs to be decerted first to use the Regedit app that is mentioned and you need to be careful when playing with the registry,

it's better to wipe the phone with a Hard Reset than playing with the

registry if you are not sure what you are doing.

Hope this helps.

You need to unlock your smartphone.

There are links to do that on this page:

If you get any problems just post in the Help and Advice section for a quick reply

Which cab are you refering to?

If it's a general question just place the cab file (using activsync) in

IPSMWindowsStart MenuAccessories

Then on the phone go to Programs Accessories and the cab file will be there for you to install.

Can I add something that may be of interest...

Firstly, I am complete newbie, but I have been trying to install Smart Explorer for weeks. Following on from the ideas in this link whenever I tried installing it (Smart Explorer) my phone always came up with the same message that "Pocket Streets has successfully installed..."???

As far as I know, I've never tried installing Pocket Streets. Checking the IPSMWindowsAppMgr I found it with the Pocket Streets Cab and Exe file and the Smart Explorer Cab file. I deleted everything in this folder, reinstalled the software and it's now working fine.

Thanks for your help.

You should not delete everything you find in this folder, only the

contents of the IPSMWindowAppMgrInstall folder should be deleted.

Other wise you lose the ability to uninstall app properly by using

ProgramsSettingsRemove Programs

gents, I've searched and searched but cant find an answer. I'm stuck here with my brand new MPX200 but havent got my leads with me. I've got an SD card full of programs, all I want to do is to be able to run SmartExplorer once, after which I'll be able to setup shortcuts etc.

I remember reading once that you can launch programs using Pocket Internet EXplorer but have forgotten how you're supposed to type in the location.

Please help!!!!!!!

Newbie posting so apologies in advance.

I'm exploring my C500 via ActiveSync and don't get the IPSM folder mentioned in thie initial post. Is there a different directory structure int the C500's version of Windows SP?

If there is a revised structure it would be great if someone could tell me where I should place a CAB file.

Thanks.

IPSM is called "Storage" on Smartphone 2003.
