Guest Bhoppy Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 I have a problem with my voice mail icon constantly being on. I have checked my voice mail and do not have any messages but the icon is still there. Should the icon be there or do I have a fault. I have contacted Orange technical support regarding this and they said that they had never heard of the problem (typical). I would really appreciate anybodies help on this as it is really bugging me, thanks
Guest icornish Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 I had this yesterday. You have to call Orange to get them to fix it.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Leave yourself a voicemail, listen to it and delete it, see if that helps. Voicemail Cancel is sent as a text message - can you receive SMS OK? Try doing a cancel divert-all-calls, that should restart the flow! P
Guest Bhoppy Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 I have just tried the above and im still getting the icon appearing should the icon dissapear when there are no messages because I have always had the icon ever since I bought the phone. Oh yeah and yes i can recieve SMS ok.
Guest Bhoppy Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 I have sorted it. I left a message on both my lines then deleted them both and it has seemed to have done the trick.
Guest Honest John Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 This is not an SPV problem, more an Orange one. I have lost track of the number of times, with Nokia and Sony handsets, that I have had to ring Orange to either unset a stuck Icon showing I have voice mail or reset it to show I have voice mail when the damned thing didn't appear. They seem to have lots of new people on Customer Services at present, so you may need to ask for a supervisor. Don't use the SPV help, though, as they seem a bit shell-shocked at the volume of calls.
Guest looeee Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 he he dug up an old old post I got a call from orange today, telling me that they've fixed this problem I've been testing it with about 5 messages (yes I've been deliberately not answering my phone). I delete the message and then as quickly as possible, hang up. A few seconds later, the answerphone light goes out. All on it's own. like magic. like it should have done for the last 8 months I don't believe it looeee
Guest Honest John Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 Sorry to contradict you, but after not having this problem for a few weeks, I got it this morning at 9.10. Symbol has been stuck all day. Rermoved it by ringing my phone from a land line, left myself a message then deleted it and waited for symbol to disappear. Phoning Answerphone is FREE on an OVP Tariff such as O2 200.
Guest looeee Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 maybe its something that orange have to do to your account. Give them a call 150 - 6 - 4
Guest mau Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 ive had the same problem a few times now. Both times i left myself another answer phones message then deleted the message without hangup until the icon disappeared. So i guess the solution is not to hangup until the icon has disappeared......until orange bother to fix it that is.
Guest looeee Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 Since I got the call off Orange today, I am convinced that they've made some change and the icon goes off when its supposed to
Guest Bazz Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 This is not an SPV problem, more an Orange one. I have lost track of the number of times, with Nokia and Sony handsets, that I have had to ring Orange to either unset a stuck Icon showing I have voice mail or reset it to show I have voice mail when the damned thing didn't appear. I've seen this argument loads but I disagree. I've never had it with numerous different Nokia's but have had it countless times with the SPV and it appears others have the same problems. If you've had this problem with other handsets then it could be a problem with Orange... or it could be that those other handsets also were buggy.
Guest jctune Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 It's not just a cellphone problem - my work voice mail has this issue as well. Bottom line, the voice mail system sends a notification to the phone that there aren't any messages left. It only sends this once, when you listen to the last unheard message. If for some reason that notification doesn't make it, the icon won't go away.
Guest Matt Kirby Posted September 13, 2003 Report Posted September 13, 2003 This is definately a network thing - it happens on all networks and all handsets to a greater or lesser extent. As jctune said - if your handset doesn't recieve the "icon clear" message for what ever reason the handset won't remove the icon. This has happened to me with the SPV and a Nokia 8310 on Orange and various Nokias and Motorolas on One2One. It aint the SPV!
Guest saxineno Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 Not that I want to sound too moody in my first post or anything but... Every time I've had a voice mail the icon hasn't disappeared and Orange have had to reset it for me, sometimes days later. I've been with orange for years and haven't had the problem with any other phone so I'm sure it's an spv thing. Anyway this morning I got a voicemail message and the icon left, so I'm hoping the problem's solved! Love and hugs Sax
Guest looeee Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 Thanks Sax for the sanity-check I was beginning to think that it was just me. I've been listening to my messages, deleting and seeing how quickly I could hang up and after a few seconds the icon goes out on its own oh happy day looeee
Guest saxineno Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Thanks Sax for the sanity-check I was beginning to think that it was just me. lol, not often am I relied upon for sanity checks! :) Sax
