Guest ultimasnake Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 Hi guys i just found out something nice to speed up your Spv e200 a bit , if you goto storagewindowsstartup and remove Orange_Support.ink & Stk Service.Ink it will save allot of startup speed.... and will have 10.something Mb of free Phys memory :)... i am not sure about the Stk Service.. but i have my Spv e200 running without those 2 applications without missing anything... anybody know some more tweaks?
Guest zabirp Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 I have 10.6xx anyway.... Anyone else tried this yet?
Guest ultimasnake Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 I have 10.6xx anyway.... after doing what i told? or even without doing so... my exact count is 10.340 (with the editing) i am going to search for some other Registry tweaks now :)
Guest shadamehr Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 @ Paul, Midnight etc... What's the story guys - is this legit.? What are these files/links for?
Guest ultimasnake Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 from this post : http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...egistry+startup Well, with the exception of IA_CID_Startup, which can be removed quite safely, they are all pretty much required. You want more! Ok then, here goes ... First for the mystery item. I have been so far unable to work out exactly what newcont.exe does. It seems to be part of the core OS environment and as such is not even visible in a directory structure listing (such as wceload.exe etc). You may be able to remove it, but I am not really sure as I haven't tried. My phone has been destroyed and re-built soooo many time lately, it needs a rest. Rmove it at your own risk, but if you do, let me know how it goes ! IA_CID_Startup is the Caller ID background process. Your phone will function perfectly normally without it ... but Caller ID will not. If you don't want this functionality, then I suggest removing the entire package rather than just the startup link. Personally I don't use it anymore, its too battery hungry ... remove it and see what I mean ! Orange Support and Remote Notify are part of the Action Engine lock package. Your phone will function as normal without them, but I would seriously advise against removing them from the startup. They are jointly responsible for allowing the service provider to lock and backup your phone should it become lost or stolen! It is also the method by which the service provider supplies OTA updates. Remove these at your own risk ! MMSRegister and MMSNotify are part of the Jataayu jMMS package. Again, your phone will function without them, but don't expect to receive any SMS/MMS messages. At least until you send one yourself, at which point these processes will be automatically started.
Guest ultimasnake Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 Just removed IA_CID_StartUp.exe too , i dont need the caller Id.. which gives me 10,720 free Phys. memory
Guest JampoTT Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 How do you remove the full caller ID package? I don't use it and if it eats battery life, its gotta go!!
Guest drblow Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 mmm... yes, how do you remove the caller ID app from the e200? It doesnt appear in the remove programs list.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 NewCont is the annoying program that puts the Orange contacts BACK in your address book on restart after you've removed them... only on the MPx tho I believe? STK_Service is to do with SIM Toolkit I think... P
Guest zabirp Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 I'v not removed anything, but this morning i had a whopping 11.xxx!! I always have atleast 10.6xx each time i turn on phone
