Guest yoos Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 I want to get a little better reception on my spv in my house so I went to radio shack asking for an antenna that would connect to my spv... The guy said that it wouldn't work... They work in cars because of all the metal, but in your house it won't work, unless it's surrounded by a ton of metal... I'm not an expert in this and wanted to run it by people who know for sure.... Is this true?? Anyone have any other suggestions on improving the reception without changing phones/carriers?
Guest mcwarre Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 Absolute tish! The metal surrounding the antenna on the car is 'grounded' to earth so has no effect on the signal received by the antenna at all. Therefore the antenna doesn't need to be surrounded by metal! (I am a Chartered Communications Engineer so hopefully know what I am talking about). Whether the SPV supports an external aerial is another matter.....
Guest [email protected] Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 Some sort of amplifier/slave would be even better me thinks. But I guess that would require a license?
Guest Will Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 goto a car audio shop, and see if one of the standard extension antenna's fits ok.. (they might even let you try it). If you want to get a magnetic one, use one of those tins of biscuits you got for christmas to stick it to! Will
Guest MECX Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 oh and just incase you didnt know the external antenna plugs into the bit under the rubber nipple on the back of the phone :)
Guest schriss Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 And how about those cheap miracle-amplifiers that you put under the battery, "as seen on TV"? :D Anyone tried with Smartphone? Results?
