Guest bikespod Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 Would much appreciate any help. I had an application unlocked e200, all was fine except having tried to install xbar. this seemed to do nothing, as in not function at all. I tried to remove it, via active sync, but it said "cannot delete file. there has been a sharing violation. the source or destination file may be in use" I have done a "clear storage", and reinstalled everything, but now i can't remove other programmes and when using smart explorer, i look in the start menu folder and all sub folders eg. accessories, config etc have .ink icons with blue circles with question marks over them. :?: :!: :?: :!: :?: :!: :?: whats going on. :?
Guest lutzh Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 hi buddy- had the same here - only thing that brought freedom of xbar was a hard reset. hard, i know but better that having this dead body in your phone... cheers, lutz
Guest bikespod Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 hello geez :) is that the same process as the old spv or did you just select clear storage from the accessories?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 First things first though is to do a simple reboot and see what happens, As I do not have an E200 I cannot test this for you, otherwise I would.
Guest bikespod Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 hi AW. i tried that a while ago. no joy. i've also tried the clear storage option, no joy either.
Guest bikespod Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 well the hard reset didn't work. still got blue circles and yellow question marks over the .ink files. anyone with any other ideas, or do you think its a trip to hayes technology for my phone? it doesn't seem to affect that much apart from trying to remove programmes and some skins are a bit corrupted. Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 These apps etc are they on the phone or the storage card? I'm wondering if you may have a fault on the card :?
Guest maxh2003 Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 Hi bikespod I have the same yellow-question-mark icons in SmartExplorer - see screenshot. I don't think it's related to xbar - I used xbar for a while without seeing those icons but noticed them appear for the first time the other day. I think. Similarly I've experienced the unable-to-remove-programs bug on both my E200 and my original SPV - which is to say that the proper Settings -> Remove Programs app doesn't seem to work properly. The only solution I found for that defect was a hard reset. If you can't bear to do that then you have to manually uninstall stuff you don't want, which in practice means deleting the directory containing the program in question, and ignoring the fact that the registry entries are still present and it still appears on the Start menu. I think the reason you're getting the sharing violation problem is because xbar auto-runs at startup. So unless you prevent this (or kill off xbar once the phone has started), the EXE is bound to be running so you can't delete it. I suggest you go to StorageWindowsStartup and see if there's an xbar shortcut there. If there is, delete it and reboot your phone. Xbar will no longer run at startup so you can now delete it. Having said that I strongly advise you not to delete xbar! The phone is much more usable when you can change between tasks at will, and IMHO your problems aren't being caused by xbar. But by all means remove it and see if things improve... For reference, xbar can be downloaded from Xetra's site at http://xetranet.free.fr/spv/xbar/e200 broken link icons.JPG
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 One thing you may find in the above is that you cannot delete the file from the Startup folder, if this is the case what you have to do is to rename the file extension to something like .jpg then reboot the phone. Now when the phone starts up again it will not use the file as the extension is wrong, this will now enable you to delete the file.
Guest bikespod Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 i can't find any xbar icons in smart explorer, in the folders you mention. i'm pretty sure i deleted them all in active sync. the hard reset i did had no effect on the question mark icons. xbar never worked after the install, so i'm unsure as to how it would be executing at start up. the only thing that appeared was the xbar icon, which did nothing when pressed. first time i tried it crashed the phone. the only other new thing i installed was surreal start. i'm at a bit of a loss. Guest bikespod Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 max, does this have any effect on any of the apps on your phone besides deleting programmes. are you working on a fix or do you think its unnecessary. i can't even delete temporary internet files! don't think its anything to do with the sd card as there doesn't seem to be any broken links or problems on it. i've got virtually nothing installed on the phone now besides smart expl and no links to apps on the card. Guest Disco Stu Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 It happened to me BEFORE I installed x-bar. Brand new E200  Haven't tried to do anything about it yet
Guest maxh2003 Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 i'm at a bit of a loss- you and me both. Are you aware that on the E200, you have to *hold* the Voice Record button for two seconds or so before xbar appears? On Smartphone 2002 phones, it's just a simple press of the button, but on Windows Mobile 2003 (and therefore, the E200) you have to hold the Voice Record button down and wait until xbar appears. That might explain why you couldn't get xbar to work? If you already knew that then I apologise for patronising you! :) xbar icon, which did nothing when pressed - this is how it's meant to work. When you run the xbar EXE, or if it runs at startup, then that causes xbar to be loaded into memory. It doesn't actually appear on-screen until you subsequently hit Voice Record. does this have any effect on any of the apps on your phone besides deleting programmesDoes *what* have any effect? If you mean deleting apps by hand instead of using Remove Programs, then no it shouldn't affect any single application you *don't* remove. But Windows will eventually get clogged up by all the left-over bits of old applications so if you *can* use Remove Programs, you should. i can't even delete temporary internet files! - you mean files in StorageWindowsprofilesguestTemporary Internet Files ? I found I couldn't delete "index.dat" even when Internet Explorer is closed. If I go to a sub-directory *below* the one given above (for instance, on my phone the subdirectory "2LSTIPQ3" exists - I can delete all the files within this directory. Does that match what you can, and can't, do? I suggest: 1) Create new text file on PC; 2) Copy to Storage 3) Delete file from phone using Smart Explorer, thus proving that files can, in general, be deleted (if it does allow you to delete it). are you working on a fix Not for xbar - it's Xetra's program, not mine. But in any case I still don't think your problems are being caused by xbar...? In particular I think the missing icons for LNK files don't matter. It could even be a bug in SmartExplorer whereby LNK icons don't load properly. But the files still work, no matter what icon SmartExplorer chooses.
Guest bikespod Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 could this be another bug on the e200? perhaps its something to do with decerting via the mk 1 e100 route. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 It happened to me BEFORE I installed x-bar. Brand new E200 Haven't tried to do anything about it yet I appreciate I'm not being much help here, but for anyone else who has the problem : the :?: problem disappeared after a soft reset. De-certed via OTA. Haven't actually got x-bar to load yet :?
Guest bikespod Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 It would be virtually impossible to patronise me Max, as my custom rank is both honest and accurate. You were right, i didn't know about the record button 2 second press. With regard to the deletion of temp files, i cannot delete the sub directories either. When i said were you working on a fix, i should have been clearer. I meant were you looking into what was causing the :?: icons to appear. :D Thanks for all your help, but my phone has come up with a solution of its own. The joystick has become so hit and miss as to wether it works that I have taken the hint and asked for a replacement. Unfortunately it will be a recon, but who knows it may even not buzz. I hope all that helped don't feel i have wasted their time, at least the problem has a thread now, if it didn't before, and i hope you find a solution presents itself soon. with all the brains on this site, a fix will surely be not too far in the future. :)
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 ....and in the same spirit.... the spurious :?: problem seems to come and go, but since it's neither harmful nor affecting anything I wouldn't worry about it
Guest bikespod Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 :) :D  :) :( :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Well the replacement has the same :?: icons, but seems to be able to delete things ok. doesn't seem to want to unlock via OTA unfortunately. the joystick works and so does the buzzing  Maybe awarner is onto something with his SD card theory after all. how would you wipe and reformat a card anyone? edit. its just unlocked.
