Well, it's confirmed now. It will be released to carriers by the end of Q1 2004. We doublechecked with our Motorola sources, and got independent confirmation as well. Confirmed: Motorola MPx220 will be arriving at the end of Q1 2004.

Woo Hoo! I'm thrilled, as this is finally the Smartphone we have all been waiting for. Man, if only it had EDGE built in as well! Well, you can't be happy about everything, but this is 99 percent perfect!

Would be sweet if it's true! If it's true I'll be getting this instead of an E200 for sure!

"nor is it no longer a rumor" = STILL A RUMOR.

 Hate to be picky but in math and English, two negatives equals a positive.

Could anybody give, based on this report, an estimation as to when this will become available on orange.

My contract is up in april and i was thinkin the choice would be either the mpx200 or e200, this would rock if reports are as good as the mpx200

The article also mentions an upgrade to 2003 for mpx200 users!!!

I'll try not to hold my breath but it's interesting nonetheless

I would'nt holw my breath on the accuracy of an MPX2200, they just released the MPX200 what this might be is just hype to keep us interested. If it istrue then it might be rushed out if they do intend to release by end of Q1, I say look forward to it in Q2 this is how big business usually works in software. I am going to be upset if it is true I just got my MPX last motnh and a 2 year contract!

Since this is news, you may want to know that the colour pictures, with full details of the specs are posted at where the first confirmation of it's arrival was posted. Or see above in the thread, as I am not allowed to say the name of the other site where it is posted. Scroll to the top of this thread though....

Hold on a minute are'nt those the supposively smuggled out pictures of the MPX100 about a month ago? Looks more like a pre-production schematic of the 100 rather than the 220. Why would the higher model 220 have an antena?

Why does it have an antenna? Simply put: because the radio quality was still sucky. T-mobile is carrying this upcoming mpx220, and they didn't like the radio quality w/o an antenna. Also, they couldn't get it to be Quad band, which it is, and have good reception, w/o it. Nuff said. This is not a bogus picture, but a real model that will be out soon. In fact, keep looking at the site mentioned in the first post of this thread, as a little birdie told me that they will have an Mpx220 model for testing soon, and will post their thoughts/review before it is release at the end of March 2004.

Correct.

And as I've posted before external aerials are need to enable a phone to be quadband, this is due to hardware issues to enable cdma and not poor

reception.

that isnt the mpx100, they are of a completely different none-ms smartphone mobi :)

cdma? These are all GSM based phones. Again, the antenna is needed and will be present unless moto can find away around it. I hope they do as it looks a lot better without one.
