E200 FREEZES totally when close to large metal objects...

I have had several total freezes with my E200 - and yesterday I found out what I believe causes it...

..when I put my phone on a large metal cabinet or anything large made out of metal - the phone freezes within minutes or at least the hour.

Anyone else experienced this?

The freeze is total - the phone doesent react to any buttons - the only option is to take out the battery... ..and here comes the really bad part:

IT STILL RECEIVES CALLS AND SMS“s - but makes no noise and just erases any data sent to it.   (taste that one)

Anyone else out there experienced this - let me know!

Yeap - I can confirm this too. My Qtek 8080 kept freezing all the time, and I thought it was some software I had installed. After reading this message, I realized that it was my laptop's fault!

When I'm at home, I usually work on my desktop, but I keep my laptop on my desk, with the lid closed. I usually place my smartphone on my laptop (when it's closed!).

I just tested it right now - it only took two minutes to get the phone to freeze (but I guess the time may vary).

This is a little weird, don't you guys think? Can anyone else give this a try?

I have the O2 Xphone and not E200 so this might not be the same thing, but for me, the Xphone locks up randomly when some home screens are used. The built-in Microsoft screens never lock up, so there must be something that causes the lockups, which I'm trying to track down...

I am not that much of a customizer, so my home screen is the default one that came with my phone, with only one exception: I editted the XML so that it would also display the location of my appointments. So, I am pretty sure that in my case, that's not what's causing it.

Ever since I noticed the "laptop issue", I also remembered another thing: When I visit the bathroom at home, I have the washing machine (large metal object) close to my "throne" and that's where I place my phone. Well, it used to freeze quite often when I was in the bathroom, but this "coincidence" never really "clicked" till today! I know this may just be "too much information" for you guys, but it's related to the topic!

I am pretty sure there is a problem with metal surfaces...

Well, I like to have pretty wallpapers on my phone, so my home screen is a totally simple design with just a clock and a row of small sized MRU, and I get lock ups all the time, but as soon as I switch to any of the Microsoft standard ones, I get no lockups.

I don't have problems with large metal objects. I work in a wire manufacturing plant, and uhh.. my metal is larger than yours? :)

Maybe these are two separate issues...

I usually don't say this publicly, but yes, yours is definitely bigger than mine! So I guess we're talking about a different problem here!

Here are some questions that come to mind:

Are you using any extra plugins or just the standard ones? Do you have the problem with any background image (using the same home screen, just different backgrounds) or a specific one? Have you tried using that particular background with a Microsoft home page? The custom home page, did you build it from scratch or did you start from a Microsoft page and just made a few changes? Can you try the custom home page on other phones (friends, etc)?

I've tried just about everything with my home screens. Have tried building my screen from scratch and modifying the built-in ones. Tried different types/sizes/formats of images. Tried storing them in internal memory and SD card...

However, after this topic was brought up again I've been experimenting again since last night, and now I believe the problem may also be carrier/signal related. So what you said about large metal objects is likely true, although I can't explain why my phone won't lock up if I use the default screen.

Anyway, I'm trying a different SIM from a 1800 MHz carrier and see if it will behave differently. Normally I use a 900 MHz carrier.
