Guest specimen42 Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 I know this topic has been discussed to death already but.... I had the GPRS symbol on my phone up until yesterday, there was a rather nasty incident involving DoomSPV which rendered my phone pretty much useless, it hung completely, on rebooting it hung at the moto splash screen so I had no choice but to do a hard reset. The reset did the trick but now there is no big G symbol until I manually connect to the net, but there's more, before this happened, I used to connect and it stayed connected until I manually disconnected, now, if I leave it idle for about 30 seconds or so it disconnects itself, which is a bit of a pain what with all the constant redialling I now have to do every time I click a link. Anyhow, considering it was working perfectly before the reset I reckon this is down to some kind of Orange customisation, maybe a startup shortcut that makes the gprs connection or some registry setting that doesn't get reinstalled after a hard reset. I also have more available memory now (even after reinstalling all the standard apps) which may mean there was some sort of TSR running in the background before, I dunno. Not a massive problem, at least it still works but if anyone finds out the cause of this I'd like to know how to get it back to the way it was, having to redial every couple of minutes is a pain in the arse.
Guest Bonzo Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 Yeah the general consensus over time with this problem was that it is not a problem at all but actually the phone working corrctly... The big G symbol which indicates that U there is a GPRS signal is available will not appear until U manually connect or until U have open the inbox and it logs on to check your e-mail... remember tho, as I didn't  that this auto sync will not happen from start-up unles the inbox has been opened at least once... As for the GPRS disconnecting U can go to Settings/Data Connections/Menu/Options and manually set the time it takes for the GPRS session to end after the connection has become idle... surprisingly this will be the Idle disconnect after setting :)... Hope this helps
