Guest smeg36 Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Here is the deal. I can't get a cell signal at my home, and it is bugging me. I can get one about 2 miles up the road, but not here. It would be really nice to use my phone at home, as that is where I am most of the time. Anyone know of a way that I can get a better signal on my MPx200. It isn't just the MPx200 by the way, this is how it is with all cell phones at my house. Thanks.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 On playing around with the phones internals I have not seen any obvious way to do this :?
Guest smeg36 Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 To bad. I just have to wait for T-Mobile to build more towers. They just came into this area a couple months ago.
Guest yoos Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Is there an adapter for an external antenna on the MPX like there is on an SPV (for using an antenna in the car)?
Guest rchiileea Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 get one of phose ariel boosters not sure if itll sort your problem. but they do boost signal
Guest smeg36 Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 I am pretty sure there isn't any slot for an antenna. What do you mean by ariel boosters? Are you talking about those things you are supposed to put under the battery? I have read a lot of debate on those, and I think the general feeling is that they are a huge waste of money. However, I am getting one free with an extra battery I bought on ebay, so I will give it a try anyway.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 There are these little stickers that allegedly help to boost your signal. These have of course been disproven but some people are not aware of this.
Guest brb00136 Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Making your own Signal Boosting Sticker This is a way to make your own signal boosting sticker(exactly like the one sold in stores. It will cost you nothing and will work just the same) 1.)Take an ordinary piece of tin foil, and draw some clean looking curcuit like lines on it, with an arrow pointing up at the top. 2.) Place this behind your battery and let the signals just roll in, it will work because the arrow points up, and its shiny (The above comments are sarcastic humor and not real instructions)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 hehe nice and clear guide though :)
Guest smeg36 Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Wow, what a difference. I got my extra battery today, with a free Signal Booster. It is AMAZING. Instead of NO SIGNAL, I am sometimes getting Searching. . . Amazing. Thanks to however invented this little device! Seriously though, are there any Yogi (or whatever they are called) antennas that would boost the signal at my house. I am dying not having service here.
Guest aristoBrat Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 While you're looking for your solution, you can do what a bunch of other US T-Mo folks in your situation do -- use your Conditional Forwarding Minutes bucket and forward all of your cell calls to your home phone when you're there. Doesn't solve your signal problem, but at least you'll get your calls.
Guest rchiileea Posted January 12, 2004 Report Posted January 12, 2004 time to get sat dish out and point to t mobile antenna :) prob best way is divert if signal booster didnt work tbh id be in contact with t-mobile asking WTF!!
Guest smeg36 Posted January 12, 2004 Report Posted January 12, 2004 How exactly could I use a satellitle dish to increase my signal? I have an extra one laying in the basement, but if there is no way to hook it up to the phone, it couldn't do much, could it? I am going to call T-Mobile today to see if they are planning on covering my area soon. When I checked their site before I moved here, it said I would have coverage.
Guest aristoBrat Posted January 12, 2004 Report Posted January 12, 2004 FWIW, my MPx200 got no service in areas where my Nokia 3650 and SPV e100 had no problems. IMO, it's a weak RF phone. If you live in a weak RF area, it's not going to work. I tried two MPx200's and ended up returning them both (eating about $80 in shipping and unlocking charges). Honestly, I was about to give up on Smartphones, but ended up winning a SPV e100 on UK eBay -- life's been great every since. I'm praying that the MPx220 does better with its external antenna. I'd kill to have a flip Smartphone phone!
Guest smeg36 Posted January 12, 2004 Report Posted January 12, 2004 I am actually getting better service with my MPx than I did with my SPV. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest aristoBrat Posted January 12, 2004 Report Posted January 12, 2004 I am going to call T-Mobile today to see if they are planning on covering my area soon. When I checked their site before I moved here, it said I would have coverage. That's what I was replying to. If you used a MPx200 in my house (which is shown as "covered" on T-Mobile's coverage maps), you'd get NO SIGNAL and think that T-Mobile needed to fix stuff on their end. :D However, if you use about any other GSM phone in my house and you'll have no problems getting a signal. Is that a T-Mo issue or a Moto issue? Who knows. I was just trying to give you a heads up not to immediately assume it's a T-Mo coverage issue. :)
