Guest midnight Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Rumours abound that the Mitac Mio 8390 will be the first mobile to feature the NVidia GoForce 2150 chip. The GoForce 2150 has very different requirements from desktop graphics systems. The processor handles pictures as large as 1.3 megapixels, outperforms the Nintendo Game Boy Advance graphics by a factor of 25, consumes little battery power and supports 70 different display interfaces to ensure it can be used in a wide variety of devices, said Phil Carmack, vice president of handheld products at Nvidia. It can process eleven 1.3-megapixel photos per second, he said. Nvidia said it has "many" customers for the GoForce 2150, though the company declined to say who is on the list besides Mitac, which is using the chip in its Mio 8390 phone. Quote from ZDNet this indeed could be very true. The GoForce 2150 chip is the first product from the combined efforts of NVIDIA and MediaQ. MediaQ Inc. was acquired by NVIDIA Corporation on August 21, 2003. MediaQ made the multimedia chip found in the Mitac Mio 8380 and so this would make sense for the 8390 to use another chip from MediaQ, but this time with help from NVidia. Sources: Nvidia and MediaQ
Guest midnight Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 just to continue on this story..... "NVIDIA knows that by combining our GoForce media processor with the OpenGL ES API, developers can easily bring dynamic 3d graphics and multimedia capabilities to a wide variety of appliances and embedded devices in market segments such as PDAs and cell phones,"said Philip Carmack, Vice President, and General Manager of Handheld Products of NVIDIA. so looks like the GoForce 2150 has native support for OpenGL ES aswell, so not only should be good for 2d, but also quite good at 3d aswell, but it should be noted this isnt a true 3d accelerator.
