Right... a while back I ordered the MPx200 on orange's site, but it wouldn't go through cause of the £5 deposit not being able to be taken from my account... so i wait a while nothing...

So yesterday I go buy the MPx in person from The Link, where they also sell me insurance for £89/3yrs (and i'm not even sure their insurance is as good as OCare)

Get home... hard reset it, install my apps and stuff... then get an email from orange --

Dear James,

Thank you for your mail.

With reference to the above order, we have now been able to take the £5.00 deposit, the order has been processed and should be with you within 2-3 working days.

Kind regards

Chris

The Orange Shop

So now I will be stuffed with 2 'phones....

My question is, should I send the Orange one back as soon as i get it...

Or, take the Link one back... but do another hard reset and install the standard stuff to the phone again (like MMS stuff) and transplant things like the SD card etc into the link box so it's all new etc..

Do help because I'm only a student and CERTAINLY cannot afford two contracts... never mind Link's evil insurance...

Hard reset the Link one and take it back I would.

(And how on the earth did they talk you into taking their insurance?)

You have 14days in which to take back a phone.

I agree with Gorskar. Get rid of the one from The Link and make sure you take out O care cos, believe me, it is worth it (had 6 SPVs replaced!). They will probably try and talk you out of it by offering some 'deal'; don't listen. Also don't tell them you are getting another phone elsewhere, just say you don't like it. Simple as that. Let us know how you get on....

they also took photo copies of my bank statement, bank card and drivers licence... how should i get them back?

Also do i have to cancel the link phone with orange first or will they do all that for me?

Just to enforce what the others have stated; take back The Link handset now-now-now :D Orange Care will cost over a third more for three years cover - spread over that period of time. However, you do actually get something with Orange Care :) The Link is part of Dixons Group and well that says it all really.

You might be able to request the copies they have under the data protection act. At the least you can get written confirmation your contract is terminated and there should be no extra charges. Unfortunately The Link are very persistant about taking any phones back under the 14-day period  So do it sooner rather than later.

If you return the phone you can ask for any copied material to be destroyed or they can just give it back to you. They cannot use this information for any other purpose so you are safe in one that area.

I would return the phone to the link and also call orange and cancel it with them, explaining what happend and stuff, you should only have to pay the used talktime/linerental , i would speak to the link's head office if you are worried about them using your details for evil

later

Just curious - why take back the phone he has already opened and installed applications on and accept the one that hasn't even been received yet?

Surely it would make more sense to call Orange and cancel the one that is on its way and, if need be, refuse to sign for it.

If you're having second thoughts about The Link's insurance, then cancel it. If it's the same as the Dixons Group Extended Warranties, then there is a 'cooling off' period. 14 days, I think.
