Gizmodo are reporting this:

Even though the new and improved 2003 version of the Smartphone operating system has been available for a few months, Samsung's i600 handset currently sells with the older 2002 version of the software. When we asked Samsung about this at CES, we were told that they have an i600 with Smartphone 2003 in the works and that it should be ready soon. And what about anyone who has already bought one? Well, rather than force people to buy a new phone if they want to get an i600 with the latest OS, Samsung is going to offer an existing owners an upgrade to Smartphone 2003.

This is great news for i600 owners, and hopefully Orange and Motorola will follow suit by releasing upgrades for the SPV/E100 and the Motorola MPx200

Does anyone know what the on-board memory specs of the i600 are? 16 or 32Mb?

I ask because as much as I would like to get excited about upgrading my E100 to WM2003, if it hasn't got the internal memory it is a mute point...

yep, gotta agree there, but there was talk of Orange and MS using the SPV internally with WM2k3, that doesnt prove much i admit, and maybe it didnt run well/was incomplete. the news article was aimed at i600 owners, i was just adding my own comment on the end, but it would be nice if Orange/moto said one way or another their plans on the upgrade situation :)

Come on now.. These apes at Orange don't even know how to build a backup tool for the SPV or an SMS tool with a decent character counter on it...

It took them a year to release a 0.2 version update that didn't really fix much!!

I SO don't believe we will ever see anything close to an SPV->WM2k3 upgrade!!

By the time you get it, humans will have colonised Mars and will be chatting on interplanetary ultra-wide-band frequencies user ear-implants!

for a start Orange dont built the backup tool, or make the sms software, only thing orange are guilty of is not informing us of whats going on, they may not make the 2k3 upgrade available, thats true, but i like to think the reason would be something like memory problems

something like memory problems

With Orange forgetting all the time, never has a truer word been said.
