Guest popstar7 Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 Hope someone can help out here- Bought an E100 just after Christmas having had my original SPV stolen in Spain last year. Explained to the guy in the Orange Shop that I was living in Spain permanently now and agreed a PAYG deal on the understanding I could get it unlocked either in the UK before I left or when I got back to Spain. Problem is since I got back to Spain I have no GPRS signal ("Unable to place call"). Orange tried to send me a message to change the Data Connection settings which didn't come through. Their manual alternative (changing the access point under Data Connections > GPRS Connections to "orangewap") hasn't helped either. I know GPRS can work through a Spanish network (Telefonica Movistar, Amena etc) having used it regularly last year with my old SPV. Any ideas how I can get it back? (Secondary question - is there a way of transferring Word files to the SPV as it only seems to accept sound and picture files? If so which format should the files be saved in and where are they saved to in the phone? Any help appreciated.
Guest martin Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 Do you have the top centre G displayed when the phone boots up ? Whose network SIM are you using and which network are your trying to access ? Depending on the answer to the above this topic may or may not help :) http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=102072
Guest popstar7 Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 I'm still using the Orange PAYG SIM I bought with the phone. Thinking that as the Orange contract SIM I had with my old SPV worked fine then this one should too. Was then hoping to unlock the phone over the air as outlined on other discussions in this forum. It won't work with another network SIM until it's unlocked obviously. Orange would do this for £20 I believe but what I don't understand is how come my old SPV worked without any adjustments last year. Now nothing. The G symbol is present at the top of the display and next to the reception bars when I actually try to connect. I'm quite happy to go with any Spanish network if I know I'll get GPRS so if anyone's used an SPV with a Spanish network SIM I'd be happy to know who (Vodafone as outlined in your link would be fine)

The G symbol is present at the top of the display and next to the reception bars when I actually try to connect. The Top centre G states that you have completed a GPRS attach to the networks SGSN and the GPRS network is available. I assume that your PAYG SIM is in credit (can be blocked at low credit). You could try APNs payginternet and paygwap but I'm not sure if this would be applicable to GPRS roaming. See this topic for SPV unlock2 application http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=101982 I'm quite happy to go with any Spanish network if I know I'll get GPRS so if anyone's used an SPV with a Spanish network SIM I'd be happy to know who (Vodafone as outlined in your link would be fine)The SPV is used on network all over the world so there should be no problem setting it up. Try and find a network that offers the best deal on GPRS Internet service (full web browsing). Most network providers will give WAP over GPRS as standard but this APN can be restricted and might not allow use of SPV internet explorer.
