I bought a brand new (but old) SPV just after christmas for £60 So I unlocked it and decerted it then started playing with my first ever windows smartphone..... and I must say I was IMPRESSED so much so I no longer use my pda or sharp gx20 (on Vodafone contract utill July 04) Anyway I'm thinking of getting a sim free MPX200 from CarPhoneWarehouse (best price I have found yet £369) Well the thing is......

a, what is included with the handset (I know there isint a cradle with it for example)

b, Should I wait for the MPX220 ? Is it really going to be released before april?

c, How would I go about updating the firmware in the future (not being a Orange or TMobile customer?) and is it true I should be able to flash it to Smartphone 2003?

BTW sorry I may of posted this in the wrong section  SORRY MODS!

I believe the cradle is included with oranges phones only (in the UK)?

As for waiting for the MPX220 ...... if we are talking a few more weeks no problem :) if on the other hand its going to be months away ...... I cannot wait  I need a fix NOW! also I was thinking that maybe I could get the best avilable handset in July when my contract is up?

Thanks

RaTCom (a phone junky)

BTW - Anyone know anything about the Rom update question?

For that price, you might as well start a new contract with Orange for around £190 which includes a contract which you can use to make FREE calls and SMS if and when you want to and then pay $10 for the sim unlock. There's also the bonus of a gurantee etc.

Do what I did.

Get it on a £15 a month contract and the phone cost's £49.00. You get Handsfree, 16MB memory card with Orange stuff on, Charger ,cradle and USB cable, oh and the software.

That's a total of £229.00, a beeter deal that the £300 + to get it simm free.

By the way I got my phone unlocked for £7.00

Cheers

The thing is I cannot get a new contract (The current one is in my partners name and she will not let or sign for a new one) and ebay is a NO NO I got burnt a few years ago with a phone so a brand new sim free one is really my only option (which I really dont mind) All I need to know now is what in the package i.e. software, headphones ect ....

Someone out there must of picked up a new UK sim free version ?

Why can't you get one in your own name? You don't have to upgrade. And there's no restriction as to how many Orange phones you have. It's much cheaper buying this way and you're guaranteed a new phone, warranty and the free minutes. :)

Unless you have a really really bad credit score and no network will give you a phone, there's nothing stopping you.

Yep I do have a REALLY bad credit rating! Skipped the country a few years ago to bum around my friends home who lives in the SF Bay area. When I returned to the UK I had 2 county court judgments  So Ive never been able (or wanted) to gain credit since.

i got my mpx200 and 128mb card from ebay for £215. it was brand new with all the bags still sealed. i insisted on collecting the phone and the seller was happy to oblige. he even showed me the receipt for the phone. there are ways around the dodgy bits on ebay.
