phone won't recharge any more

I am on my second MPx200 and the same thing has now happened to the second phone as happened to the first one.

I have been happily using the second phone for a couple of weeks and now when I try to plug it in to recharge, nothing happens. It will sync with Outlook no problem but will not charge.

I have tried a number of things including rebooting and even a hard reset but nothing will make it charge.

The only thing that has happened on both occasions is that I have left the phone for a couple of days without charging it, although, there was still a bar of battery on each phone even after that so they hadn't run completely dry.

The local Orange shop swapped the first phone on a 28-day replacement deal but I can't keep doing this every couple of weeks. Has anybody else had this problem? Does anybody have any suggestions that might fix it?

Have you tried using the mains charger instead of the USB one?

you may have a fault with your USB ports :?

I have tried mains, usb port and car charging and none of them work.

The phone is going back to the shop tomorrow to try another replacement but this will be the last time I do this. It must be something I am doing if nobody else has experienced this problem but I cannot think what it is.

Maybe your USB ports are pumping out the wrong voltage/amps to the phone?

To check you can always:-

(with phone pluged in)

Right click on my computer,

Select "Manage",

Click "Device Manager",

Open the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" Branch (at the very bottom),

Double click the first "USB Root Hub",

Select the power tab.

(if the device isn't listed there try the second "USB Root Hub")

Don't ast me what it sould be (don't have an MPx), but maybe someone else can help there.

I will certainly look into this as it is a possibility I hadn't thought of.

The only thing is that I had been successfully charging the phone for weeks beforehand from all sources including the USB port.

What i was thinking is that maybe the USB is slowly killing your battery/phone.

Bit of a long shot but worth a look?

Just to finish this off I have had my phone replaced at the Orange shop for the second time now.

Just have to see how long this one lasts!

I have had mine for 3 months and just last night went to plug it in for it's 'nightly recharge' and same thing, it does not charge. My wife has the same phone so I swapped batteries on the off chance that the battery was not taking a charge, but no-go. The battery charges fine in her phone. Tried the mobile charger, wall charger and USB Cradle. Phone sync's fine but just refuses to charge... Anybody have any ideas???

There was a fault with early SPVs when the battery became too low

the phone would not charge, you would have to remove the battery

and unplug the charger then replace and power on the phone before

it could charge again.

Try charging it on the mains charger - it seems to give a much heavier / long lasting charge than via the USB connx

Yer, same things just happened to me!

Battery was around 30% put it on charge, came back a few hours later and it had stopped on 60%. I haven't tried charging it from USB yet as i'm away from home so at least when i'm back i'll be able to find out whether it's the mains charger or the battery.

If it's the battery presumably orange care will cover that (will i have to replace the whole phone?). If it's the main charger looks like i'll have to fork out for a new one

Battery has been completely dead for over 12 hours now

A**e

*EDIT* It's the battery that's fubared as it wont charge off USB either! DOH! Right, on the phone to OCS then.

*EDIT AGAIN* Well OCS seem to think that it's the handset that is at fault as it doesn't power up when connected to the mains when the battery is removed. I should have a shiny new moto mpx200 handset delivered free tomorrow night, apparently i keep the battery, sim card, etc and yes i've already taken out the 256Mb SD card  Hopefully they'll send me a new battery with the handset (and in my dreams SP2003 installed :) and perhaps someone at the warehouse might missread mpx200 for mpx220 lmao!!!) Oh and i've managed to not lose the USB cover so i might have to hang on to that as a spare
