Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Well, i've known about it for a while, and it's now official - IA Style is to withdraw from the retail channel having been purchased by HTC, and publish applications exclusively for bundling with HTC devices. I'm very sad to see IA go, they've developed some very nice products, and have been a great friend to MoDaCo. In the light of this announcement, I can confirm that the IA Style support area at MoDaCo will continue to exist until the end of April, with IA staff participation, after which date it will be merged back in to the Applications forum. I'd like to wish them well in their new guise, and I look forward to collaborating with them in the future ;-) P January 15, 2004 - IA Style, a creator of applications for mobile and wireless devices, has been acquired by High Tech Computer Corporation (HTC; TAIEX: 2498), one of the world's most respected Windows CE device manufacturers. As part of the merger, the IA Style team will continue to develop software for bundling with HTC products. IA Style will stop selling through retail channels on January 30, 2004. IA Style will continue to provide support on the user forums and responding to the email questions, until the end of April of 2004. The IA Style website, at www.iastyle.com, will continue to provide services for changing registration codes and other information until the end of August, 2004. Mr. Lotus Chen, General Manager of IA Style, said the merging of IA Style and HTC will "create the best platform for further enhancement of application software development and will significantly strengthen the international competitiveness of Taiwan handset vendors." Mr. H. T. Cho, CEO of HTC, said IA Style is currently a multimedia software partner vendor of HTC, and in the course of collaboration both parties found they share a great deal in common in terms of ideas, cooperation, culture and beliefs in product development. "With shared ideas, as well as the emerging long-term value in the software technology provided by IA Style, the merger of the two companies would increase the competitiveness of HTC in such product areas as PDA, PDA Phone and Smartphone, and enhance HTC's product application development and integration capacity. With these additional advantages, HTC will be able to offer customers higher added-value services in their products, acquire bigger market share and further reinforce market leadership of the company." HTC Corporation, founded on May 15th 1997, specializes in designing and manufacturing world-class mobile computing and communication solutions for OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and ODM (original design manufacturer) customers. HTC partners include Microsoft, Intel, Texas Instruments, QUALCOMM, Sony, and Citizen. HTC is ISO-9001 and ISO-14001 certified.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Are we allowed to find out what IA stands for yet?
Guest Crispy Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Are we allowed to find out what IA stands for yet? It actually stands for something? Anyway, being purchased by a large company like HTC definitly says something about the quality of the IA style products! So congrats to the IA style staff, and good luck with your future as HTC employees :D
Guest idoru Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 This is good news for us! You can only imagine what quality s/w will come integrated on the new HTC phones. It indicates clearly the direction HTC want to take their phone portfolio - so something to look forward to.
Guest midnight Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 Are we allowed to find out what IA stands for yet? top of their website says 'Information in Action' :D
Guest Shuflie Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 Not to cast any sort of gloom over the proceeding but how does this news effect continued support for those who have purchased IA Style products and future upgrades? I'm talking mainly about IA Album for smartphone for which an upgrade to version 2 was promised but there are other programs and applications for smartphone and PocketPC. nevermind, just checked the IA Style support forum and got a slap in the face for bothering. :x
Guest peekie Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 the only question i have for ia is the support to customers who purchased their programmes eg the caller id prog which has so many small problems???? :?
