Memory issues on new MPx200

Hi all,

I've just received my new MPx200  However, looking at the System Info Util in the Accessories folder shows under Memory (RAM), the 'Storage' section shows

10.1/10.6 MB 95%.

I haven't installed anything on the phone's memory, just the SD card, except for a few (small) wavs. The run runs slow most of the time, taking a while to bring up menus or if I get an SMS, it takes ages when you click on SMS(1) on the home screen to bring it up.

Is this unusual? Any suggestions at all would be great.

Thanks, Matt.

The phone comes with a number of pre-installed applications depending on your network provider which is why it shows that some of the memory has been used.

If you don't intend to send/receive MMS, then uninstall the MMS application. This will speed up your inbox.

Right,

Listen up. Go to ProgramAccessoriesSystem Info

It will say:

Memory (RAM)

Total x/28.4MB (mine is 19.8 MB)

Program x/17.8 MB (mine is 10 MB)………………A

Storage x/10.6 MB (mine is 9.8 MB)………………B

Select Flash and it will say:

Internal x/10.3 MB (mine is 4.2 MB)………………C

SD Card x/241.1 MB (for 256MB SD Card) (mine is 37.6 MB)…………D

Take a note of all these. Now goto ProgramsAccessoriesTask Manager. Select MenuSystem Info.

It will show power status and Memory Information.:

Total Memory: 28.40 MB

Storage Memory: 10.63 MB

Used: x MB (mine is 0.828 MB)

Free: (10.63-x) MB (mine is 9.82 MB)…………….B

Program Memory: 17.77 MB

Used: x MB (mine is 7.63 MB)

Free: (17.77 - x) MB (mine is 10.14 MB)…………A

Flash Information:

IPSM(Flash): 10.29 MB

Used: x MB (mine is 6.14 MB)

Free: (10.29 - x) MB (mine is 4.15 MB)…………..C

Storage Card: 241.13 MB (for 256 MB)

Used: (mine is 203.55 MB)

Free: (mine is 37.58 MB)…………………………..D

Now, although the readings are approximate, it is quite obvious that A=A, B=B, C=C and D=D. Therefore the readings shown in system info are free space. Here endith the lesson......

Your phone may run slow for a number of reasons:

1. Install all apps to SD Card.

2. You are not used to Smartphone which, because of its OS, runs slower than say a nokia.

3. Do what Sophist says.

4. Application unlock your phone and install Midnight’s Speed boost tweaks (just search this site).

5. The phone has aborted a program install but has left the temporary files on the phone. Use active synch to explore My SmartphoneIPSMWindowsApp ManagerInstall and delete any files found there.

Hey thanks for all that. I did what you said, and noticed this: Under Flash (Internal) [i.e. Example C in your post]

10.29 Total

9.51 Used

0.8 Free

I've only had the phone a week and have not placed anything on it except for one small (250kb) ringtone. I'm with Orange in the UK, they can't have put that much rubbish on it can they?

Can I look anywhere to see what is causing this?

MPD,

That is your problem. The phone is trying to run everything in this small amount of RAM which slows everything down. If I were you I would hard reset the phone and remove caller ID app. This should make the phone much faster. (remember to activesync your contacts b4 you do this).

Give that a go and let us know how you get on!

Did all you said, and boy, what a difference!

I can't believe how much crap was on there - I've freed up about 4mb!!!!

Anyone else with a new UK Orange MPx200 would be well advised to follow this thread!

Hey, thanks for all your help.

Matt.

Sigh....if only I could afford one...

I've only had the phone a week and I reckon I've spent the official UK budget already!

Orange must be loving me.

I got mine from eBay for a shade over £50 which included postage, packing and insurance. The card arrived only 4 days after I ordered it.

More than enough room for all my apps and enough music to keep me happy during lunch hour at work.... tomorrow I have new episodes of the Simpsons and Friends to watch (sad git)
