Guest kudosam67 Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 I have the original SPV and applied the update, everything is fine after except two problems: 1. I can not remove any programs from 'remove programs', it simply says the program can not be removed. 2. I can not edit the profiles, wanted to increase the volume on the normal profile but nothing happens when i click on 'edit'. Does anyone have any idea where the cockup is?
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 Your point 1. The upgrade has the same effect as a Hard Reset so everything you installed on the phone itself will have been wiped off. This naturally includes all the program menu shortcuts and the IPSM/Windows/AppMgr folder which stores the add/delete temporary files. Hence nothing showing in Settings. If you've installed stuff after the upgrade then I have no idea. Your point 2. Sorry I have no idea, but it may be worthwhile re-running the upgrade

Guest Baffy Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 I too have installed the ROM 1.6 upgrade on the original SPV. After installing the update I re-applied the de-cert through the Orange Developers Site and ran the Restore. All worked fine except now no Profiles can be selected or edited. I've searched MoDaCo for the answer but can't find anything. Please help.

Guest Tim Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 You need to delete the xml files in IPSMApplication DataProfiles. Then the profiles will start to work again, though you will need to make any changes to them that you previously had made.

Guest Virginia Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 Since I applied the 1.6 update, pocket candy, ear saver and ringtones don't work. I have run the de-cert application and it seemed fine. Your instructions to go into hk keys, profiles etc. is beyond me, I don't know how to get into that or even if that is what I should do? Orange have sorted out the problem that changed my settings - they changed the dns setting to values intead of 0.0.0.0. :?:
Guest kjk Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 can you give more info what you really mean by don't work :?:
Guest thornton Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 1. Fixing profiles that don't work after using the Back/Restore tool can be done by going to the Profiles menu, then in respect of each non-working profile (a) highlight it ( Press 'Menu' © Select 'Reset to default' You will have to recustomise each such profile after this to your desired settings if the default ones are not to your taste. 2. As regards theI can not remove any programs from 'remove programs', it simply says the program can not be removedproblem, the (rather involved) solution I have devised can be found here. The only other solution I know of is a hard reset followed by reinstallation of the various software. Good luck!
Guest Virginia Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 I have put pocket candy onto my phone by transferring it from my docs on my computer. I can run the opening of the zip file on the phone but when I try to use the file the system tells me there has been an error opening the file. this is the same with the other items which I presume are not microsoft registered??? I have put on Vocal Microsoft but this won't work either - I can't even delete it on the remove programs - the system tells me it cannot be removed...
Guest Virginia Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 I must also add that I never know which file to put these items into on the phone. Can you help please?
Guest kelv23 Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 for all the messages about the update problems I'm not going to bother with it.It seems like a lottery as to whats going to happen after its been installed.Does Orange know about these problems?
Guest kjk Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 It's seem you need to do a hard reset I always do a hard reset before and after upgrade/downgrade and never had a problem with install/remove app for pocket candy if you install it on sd card so you need to change reg tweak go to HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE // software // Strickland Consultning // Pocketcandy press VALUE open Screen Saver DIR and change VALUE DATA IPSMprograme filespocket candy to Storage Cardprogram filespocket candy you don't need to do that if you install pocket candy on your phone. and one thing more IF you DELETE som app folders/files from IPSM/WINDOWS/AggMgr so you can remove these program from phone then you have to do a hardreset to solve problem I THINK MOST PPL DON'T DO A HARD RESET AFTER UPGRADE THAT WAY THEY GOT PROBLEM WITH ORANGE 1,6

I have been trying to resolve this problem for a week, and something as simple as that has exposed my ignorance. Thornton, you're a gem
Guest rangemaster1 Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 How can i set the back light to stay on in power management after the update? (Different from old setup)
Guest Tim Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 Since upgrading, about 50% of the time I reboot my phone it does a hard reset, has anyone else had this? Naturally I don't turn it off much these days.
Guest Virginia Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 Right! After the 1.6 update, I have now hard reset my phone and de-certed (confirmed by Orange). I have replaced Smart Explorer signed, then unsigned and both went on the phone ok. I still cannot put ring tones, or Pocket Candy onto my SPV and I have tried through Active Sync and directly onto the phone. The programme loads ok but when I try to run one of the screen savers after unzipping, the message comes up Unable to open the file? Ignore above, It has taken 24hrs to clear itself from the looks of things as pocket candy, after about 10 times of trying to download has now decided to work.... Magic.
