Guest mvsmith07 Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 My wife tried to be clever at Christmas and thought she would buy me a gadget for use with my SPV E100. Disastrous decision! She bought software designed for Pocket PC. She knew I didn't have Pocket PC, but thought I could just load that OS onto the phone and, therefore, get this software to work as well. :? I think because I used to have a habit of reformatting my PC and loading different OS versions she thought the same was possible with the phone. Anyway, I know some applications compiled for PocketPC work on the Smartphone, but do all PocketPC applications? It is compiled for the ARM processor so the compiled code shouldn't be a problem. I tried the normal install procedure, but the message "Pocket PC Device Not Found" (or something similar) is returned. I have copied the CAB, I assume the install process copies to the phone, and run that manually. It displays the "...CAB copied successfully" message, but then just returns to the Programs menu. I presume the CAB install procedure is probably looking for a PocketPC version number and on not finding one just ends the install program. Anyone got any ideas? Will it be possible to get this software to work on the SPV? I would take it back to the shop (Argos), but they have a no-returns policy, apparently, on software. For some reason or other my wife decided to remove the sealed packaging to have a look inside the CD box. If she hadn't done that taking it back would have been the first option. Now it looks like I might have made a copy and am trying to return it. I could argue that my wife shouldn't have been trying to buy gadgets without first checking with me, but... Anyone want to buy a piece of software that will read your emails to you on a PocketPC device?
Guest kjk Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 I think you have to take it back to shop app for pocket pc are not working on smartphone if app is just design for pocket pc.
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 You need to check IPSM/Windows/AppMgr/Install folder for anything left over from the attempted installations. Delete anything you find as it will cause problems next time you install something.
