Guest Treadsoftly Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Have just had a call from Orange Wirefree team soliciting feedback for the SPV. I was very impressed with their plans over the next few months, and the attitude to feedback from the team. Apparently they are contacting each SPV owner who has bought one in the last month - 3000 users by their records. I was informed of software updates in both Jan and Feb, a neoprene keyboard, MS word and excel for smartphone, and attachable speakers for the media player. The team is activly monitoring the MoDaCo boards and the microsoft.public.smartphone boards too, and are in close collaboration with the team who developed the software at MS.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 3000 users? Damn, that's another 1800 people we could have on the forum! If only they could do a little 'plug' on each call... :D P
Guest Treadsoftly Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Paul - they did! They mentioned this board by name, and they said they regularly read it, and they are in close touch with the MS team, so they are probably reading too. Good to know isn't it? Especially for you! :D
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Yeah indeed! Everyone should give themselves a pat on the back... It wouldn't be a whole lot of use if I just posted here on my own would it :D P
Guest kevlar Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Paul, have you noticed how quiet the microsoft smartphone newsgroup has become? I think you are to blame for that! Kevlar
Guest timodonnell Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 It sounds as though Orange really are taking development of our favourite ickle toy seriously - good on them. I do wonder how much of that is a reaction to the strength of feeling expressed by many users during the first weeks of SPV launch . . . maybe the whingers and nay-sayers that we frowned upon (well, I'll admit that *I* frowned on them ;-) ) have helped us in the long run ? just my 2p/worth Tim
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Orange have invested a considerable amount in the SPV, so it would make sense for them to do their best to make it a success! I noticed the newsgroup has become quiet, but to be honest with you, I've never liked newsgroups, cos I only have web access in the office! :D I think a proper forum like this is much nicer, but then again I am biased I guess :( I agree Tim, thankfully the number of 'I'm gonna send back my crap SPV' people has decreased dramatically! P
Guest Moony1234 Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 paul i think u need to splitt general up a bit more, i.e questions, stockists, general chit chat, etc. because there are soooo many posts its hard to keep up when u only visit a few times per day :D
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 I know what you mean, but I'm not sure further splitting is the answer. I think the key thing to do would be to avoid duplicate posts, and post on existing topics when appropriate :D Until we get a FAQ, we are getting a lot of duplicate posts, and avoiding this would help. I'll have a think about more categories, but not 100% convinced :( P
Guest Moony1234 Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 how about a HOW-TO & FAQ forum where people can post ANSWERS to questions that are asked a lot. And put that forum up the very top. and make sure you tell people not to ask questions in it.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Kinda like a tips and tricks area? :D P
Guest spacemonkey Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 I don't reckon splitting it up will help much. At the moment general gets a lot of posts that would more likely fit in Bugs or Tips and Tricks. It's almost impossible to determine the difference in theme between customisations and tips and tricks based on the posts. Most customisations go into the tips forum. (although at the moment there's not a lot of true customisations out there due to the cert issue). Certainly a solid FAQ/How to is the best solution at the moment and then the moderators need to be quick to redirect people there. It needs to go FAQ style because I've found searching the forum to be a pain and the basics need to be in a logic easy to scan format. Just my opinion anyway. Keep up the good work all...
Guest madu Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Agree, splitting is useless... I personally post mostly in Main, since Tips and Tricks is more like cool things you can do and as mentioned - soft.. Bugtrack should really be about verified bugs and solutions to them... All the other questions I reckon should go into Main. The only real tips and tricks I DO remember is by Chris B and Q-Ri.. something (very good job) and stuff like how to perform a hard reset... Spacemonkey's right - I don't see much difference between the three, and just browse through all with no difference. It is really about how people post and the subjects they choose for topics (getting a very sensitive issue, ie: Urgently Need Help!!! - how should I know what that is all about, and we all need urgent help...). And for P and mods it would be very time-consuming rearranging the forum all the time. Though it will need a refurbishment and some clean-up as soon as FAQ comes out.. If anything's gonna help - it would be renaming Tips&Tricks to FAQ (yes Paul) and sorting out posts between Main and Bugs... I really think we should stick to 'incorrect bug reports to be removed' idea - removed to Main.. So something that is not a bug, but just a question like 'There is no alarm on my phone!! Help it's a bug!!' should be in Main... There's one up now and kevlar made a right note that it should be elsewhere: : No easy way to tell who msg'd on MSN Messenger - surely this is not a bug - it does not sto ur phone from working - it is a lacking feature (wishlist?) Anyway, this is getting insanely long.. Thanks for reading. :D
Guest Treadsoftly Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 *WARNING* I'm sorry to have to announce ladies and Gentleman, but this thread has been HIJACKED!! :>
Guest DancingMatt Posted December 19, 2002 Report Posted December 19, 2002 There's a lot of wasteful posting on uk.telecoms.mobile and I hate reading the group, it's just bickering with some useful info inbetween. Best I can suggest P is you're doing a great job (just got my phone and I've learnt a lot before I got my hands on it from this forum), and duplicated posts are likely to be bug-related so perhaps the Bug forum just needs monitoring. And maybe more instructions in the how-to-use-the-forum email to new members? But Agreed Treadsoftly! :D So let's get back on track - neoprene keyboard? Like a wraparound one, a bit like you can get for Palm (or IPAQs, can't remember which)? Mmmmm It could be a great phone...
Guest Treadsoftly Posted December 19, 2002 Report Posted December 19, 2002 Yup - a wraparound one is what I have been told - by both Orange and the company that is licencing the technology to make it. IwantoneIwantoneIwantoneIwantoneIwantoneIwantoneIwantoneIwantoneIwantoneIwantone
Guest Shire29 Posted December 19, 2002 Report Posted December 19, 2002 Just a comment about an earlier post on this thread. Thanks to this forum and the users of it (I thank you all) we have in a short space of time resolved many of MS and Orange bugs with work arounds and solutions. I feel that Orange and MS should be taking this forum VERY seriously because without it there would have been many SPV's returned, including mine. I also had the call from Orange last week infact, they mentioned the updates in the new year, although could not say one way or the other whether updates are "chargeable", new games some frreebies evidently, and also mentioned the 10MB limit (monthly). I have found Orange very helpful with a couple of probs I have had "156" and really have no complaints over the service I have received, as a first time Orange customer. Cheers, Shire
