Divx & E200 - What do I need?

Hi Everyone!

Well, I'm completely new to MS Smartphones, just got an E200 this Saturday on Orange.

I want to use it to its full extent, watch movies play games etc.

What software do I need to get Divx movies working on the E200? I checked out those instructions that are in the article on this website, but after I downloaded that Divx player, there are no instructions on where to install it on the phone. There is someting in french, but I can't speak it...

What other specific software would you recommend that I get?

Please note, that I am a complete newbie to this stuff and am not sure in how to install them either. So any help would be very appreciated.

Also, do I need to get my phone unlocked? or does it come unlocked?

Thanks for your help!

First steps :

Yes you need to unlock the phone - there's a new Over-the-Air link on the Orange developers website http://developer.orangews.com/orgspv/comdefq.aspx

Follow the instructions carefully

See the threads discussing OTA if you have any problems - use the Search facility above

Then you need a program called SmartExplorer - see other threads on how to load this.

Use Smart Explorer to create a folder called To Be Installed in Storage/Windows/Start Menu

If the DIVx file is CAB, put it in there using ActiveSynch

Restart the phone, and go to the folder using the Programs menu and click on the file icon.

It will install itself - follow the instruction on screen

This is all up here I promise you

Good luck

thanks for the help man!

I found another player called PocketMVP and got that installed on my phone.

I didn't need to unlock the phone, when I try to install it I get a warning telling my its not certified, but asks whether I want to install anyway.

Now, what is the best way of coding videos for the phone? I normally use flaskmpeg for coding to avi's, but I don't think u can code from avi's to avi's with that one. I also have VirtualDub, which can code from avi to avi.

What are the best settings for coding to?

what resolution is best to use, frame rate, audio rate and what divx codec is supported by the PocketMVP player?

Any links would be great.

Thanks for the help!!

Hey, thanks for the tips & links.

I did a search and found a very good guide for using different encoders, inculding Windows Media Encoder and VirtualDub and the settings to use for smartphones,

Here's the link should anyone else find it useful:-

I havent tried out PocketTV yet, I have just downloaded it, I'll give it a try soon.

But for all intents and purposes, PocketMVP is working fine. There are a few issues with it though, firstly it won't play more than 1 file at a time needing the phone to be reset to play another file, unless you watch the video all to the end and it stops automatically, then you can load another file without needing the phone to be reset.

The seeking doesn't work either and the program just crashes when pressing any other button than the joystick or no.7(backlight). I do hope they release an updated version of PocketMVP with full support for the E200.

Other than these issues, the videos themselves work brilliantly with no lagging and at fulscreen.

cheers for the help everyone.

I'm trying to encode divx files myself, but a 3 minute mpeg 9.5mb(input file), after conversion is 11.5mb :D

Does it matter what the input file's format is ?

I'm using Clint Eastman;s V2 settings for Virtualdub.

The program to me is really confusing and I can't easily see where I alter the bitrate settings etc.

Is 11.5mb the right kind of size for a 3 minute video ??

Thanks

ps: i havent had much sleep and am still feelin effects of last nights booze up so i'm sorry if im not making much sense lol :)

sounds like your doing it wrong.. a full 2 hour movie should be around 100-130 megs in 176x220.. to bad the PocketMVP works like crap on my 8080/E200
