Guest Dathersmith Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 Since swapping to an MPX200 from an SPV I have found it difficult to reliably make and receive calls. Admittedly I live in a poor reception area for Orange but with 2 bars on the SPV I had no real problems. Now with the MPX I am constantly losing calls and often the phone shows No Service. If I put the SIM back into my old SPV I can make calls without problems. Has anyone else suffered similar problems?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 I have also found that the signal sometimes appears to be poorer than the SPV but this could be software realted in the radio stack rather than hardware related.
Guest MrZaphod Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 Yep, same problem here. My friends new MPX200 gets no signal when my e200 still shows 1 bar. This was in Bristol (BS6 and BS8) where the transmitters are 'old' according to Orange. The odd thing is that the problem seemed to occour after a hard reset. Anyway, it's gone back to Orange. Will report more when the replacement arrives! Cheers

Guest kyrkesmith Posted February 10, 2004 Report Posted February 10, 2004 I reckon it's the radio stack. My E100 now get 2 bars throughout my house, whilst an MPx200 gets no bars. The E100 improved significantly (had been varying between nothing and 1 bar) after the 1.6 update.

Guest verbetex Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 My receptions pretty poor too, when sat next to my old Nokia 3330 on orange, the nokia says 3 or 4 bars, and the MPx 1 or maybe 2. A really annoying thing is that I can be on a phone call, and swap ears, and then I can't hear the call (no I'm not deaf in one ear :)) Swap it back again and I get reception!!

The really frustrating thing is that I can be sitting still looking at the strength meter and for seemingly no reason I will lose a bar or two. The phone is great for everything but making and receiving calls.
Guest TANKERx Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 It really gets my goat when it sits there with two bars, I try to send a message and the bars vanish resulting in a failure, but once the failure message appears, the two bars come back! Arghhhhh! What is it with this phone!!??? The least it could do is try and sen the message later like almost every other phone I've ever had!

It doesn't support 850 MHz TDMA networks, which are all over the place, because it's the standard used by older cell phones. Basically, if some other phone is getting service, and the MPx200 next to it says "No Service", it probably means that you are in an area where only a TDMA 850 MHz network is available.

I'm sure that's true in some cases, but my "No Service" experience was done on T-Mobile USA, which is only 1900mhz. My 3650 had no problems working in areas where the MPx200 would only show "No Service" -- no 850mhz involved at all. :)

So far, I've had 3 Nokia phones, and I'm on my second Motorola, and the Nokias always had better reception. :idea: Must be the divine providence :idea:
