Guest chris.owens Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 I'll be sending this to Orange in due course, but I thought you lot might be interested in it. I don't think I'm saying anything radically new, it's just my take on a bunch of issues that a lot of people have been having. Things I'd like to see for the Orange SPV * Ability to save photos to memory/storage card. * Ability to attach files to emails. * Ability to view .xls and .doc files. * Ability to edit text files (and view arbitrary files as text). * Ability to download email from more than 1 account. * Ability to add/delete email folders. * Ability to have playlists in media player. * Ability to call my phone something other than "Smartphone" in ActiveSync. * Ability to go forward in Pocket Internet Explorer as well as back. * Ability to "save target as" in Pocket Internet Explorer. * Tasks and Contacts functionality seems a bit stunted. * Windows Explorer functionality should be built in to the O/S (I know about ALL-explorer, though). * Generally it seems like a lot of functionality has been cut out to keep things simple: I'd like to see more functionality for "expert" users. * A cheap, simple way to develop programs - I appreciate that unsigned code has security implications, though. * Longer battery life. * Fewer hang-ups (where it stops responding for 10-20 seconds) and crashes. * Faster processor - I'm not running performance critical apps, but e.g. scrolling in Internet Explorer can be sloooow. Accessories I'd like (and would be prepared to pay for) * A nice case: the free one is horrible. Maybe metal or neoprene or something "techy" like that. * Better handsfree: I can't keep the earphones of the free one in my ears, and bits keep dropping off it. * A keyboard: preferably small (e.g. like the one built into the Psion Revo), preferably rigid so you don't have to have a flat surface to put it on, but a "keycase" one will do. * Extra charger / sync cradle so I can charge and sync at work as well as at home. Software I'd like * Fonix voice central. * Games like chess, reversi, draughts (checkers). * Age of Empires for SmartPhone! Things that are great * The unlimited GPRS! * Pretty much everything about the whole thing. * Orange dedicated content. * Phone / contacts / email integration. Chris Owens.
Guest orangesp Posted March 5, 2003 Report Posted March 5, 2003 In response to your questions, I have copied your message and put some answer below (in brackets): Things I'd like to see for the Orange SPV * Ability to save photos to memory/storage card. (You can move them there via Smart Explorer) * Ability to attach files to emails. (You can do this with Smart Explorer) * Ability to view .xls and .doc files. (There are companies developing this) * Ability to edit text files (and view arbitrary files as text). (NotBad.exe works like notepad in windows and does this) * Ability to download email from more than 1 account. (you can via www.mail2web.com via explorer) * Ability to add/delete email folders. (Smart Explorer is better "and free!") * Generally it seems like a lot of functionality has been cut out to keep things simple: I'd like to see more functionality for "expert" users. (there are a limited number of buttons! it is a phone after all) * A cheap, simple way to develop programs - I appreciate that unsigned code has security implications, though. * Longer battery life. (I carry the O2 XDA, "USB and Car charger in one". Bought it from O2 shop and allows me to plug it into any car or any PC - wherever I am - Handy!) * Fewer hang-ups (where it stops responding for 10-20 seconds) and crashes. (Since the Orange UK update and using "SP Taskmanager V5" (free!) to close down background programs - this problem doesn't trouble me anymore) * Faster processor - I'm not running performance critical apps, but e.g. scrolling in Internet Explorer can be sloooow. (This problem was also resolved for me, with the same solution as I said to your last question) Accessories I'd like (and would be prepared to pay for) * A nice case: the free one is horrible. Maybe metal or neoprene or something "techy" like that. (I got a generic Clear-Case from the FoneShop, which sells general cases and accesories - its spot on!) * Better handsfree: I can't keep the earphones of the free one in my ears, and bits keep dropping off it. (you can get a bluetooth one now!) * A keyboard: preferably small (e.g. like the one built into the Psion Revo), preferably rigid so you don't have to have a flat surface to put it on, but a "keycase" one will do. (there are a number of options available) * Extra charger / sync cradle so I can charge and sync at work as well as at home. (mentioned this one above - the O2 XDA. OrangeSPV has the same processor and the same interface, therefore most add-ons should work?) Software I'd like * Fonix voice central. * Games like chess, reversi, draughts (checkers). (checkers is available) * Age of Empires for SmartPhone! (Hope this helps!) (Contact me if you want specific details re: the above questions! via my website www.orangesp.com or email [email protected]) Cheers, Brian.

Guest yatpeak Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 Age of Empires would be great! since there is one for WinCE, it could probably be ported to smartphone and fixed up so that it didn't require 10mb of ram. Wyatt
Guest athertop Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 The ability to re-send failed text messages would be nice if not essential! Cheers, Paul
Guest Richie M Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 * Ability to call my phone something other than "Smartphone" in ActiveSync You can :? i have different names/profiles for home & work :) (Any way ActiveSync is nothing to do with Orange)
