Battery meter accuracy?

Why does my phone die when my battery reads 38%? Anybody else have this problem? I am happy with the battary life, I usually get 2 to 3 days with moderate usage but the battery meter does not seem to be very accurate.

Yup - one of the first things I noticed - Mine seems to warn me its reached a critical level at about 60%! I can still talk for another half an hour though!

mine too, except that every so often it runs out of batts in about an hour...after a full charge! i check up on it about 30 mins in, and viola -80%. another 10 mins and it drops (without any use) to 40%. then another 10 and it gives me a critical alert. it only happened twice, though. otherwise i get a good 3 days.

Same here.. I have also noticed that if I leave the handset charging overnight (from 10%ish) on the USB cable my battery lasts less than if Id charged it with the wall outlet?! Strange......

BTW I get about 14 hours standby which I spend 2 hours everyday watching a different film at work... god I love my job nowdays

I've never noticed a differance between charging via USB or Mains and I always get decent battery life.

really? but is there a difference, from a technical standpoint?

Nope,

The data part of the USB connection has no bearing on charge, it works the same as the mains adapter by simply supplying a voltage (5v from the mains adapter) which is the same output you get from a USB pin 1.

I use my USB to power many things, even an ANTEC light tube I bought from eBuyer to light up my keyboard.

However, the Motorola mains adapter delivers it's 5v at 450mA but I believe that a USB port delivers it at 500mA so has slightly more kick behind it, but not enough to make a difference. Anyway, this is a max figure and the MPx probably doesn't draw it's power at that rate.

There is a feature built into USB technology known as the 'dying-gasp' but this is a failsafe if USB power is lost to shut down a device dependant upon USB power. So I can't see that this would be occurring, though if it were then your USB port could be running at 3.3v.

This is unlikely and would undoubtedly cause the MPx to stop charging, so I am only mentioning this as a possible and not probable cause.

Get a multimeter and see what’s happening
