Guest bal Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 Is it possible to add phone numbers into your phone via the computer. I've got loads of new numbers i need to add, but it takes so long using the keypad. (i know, i know, i'm a lazy bum)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 Just use Outlook to enter all your contacts then sync them over
Guest kristianmatthews Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 (unsure if it works in Outlook Express) Nope Outlook only
Guest bal Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 thanks. Is it possible for a bit more detail - i've got outlook and activesync. i don't want to transfer all my contacts that i have in outlook though
Guest kristianmatthews Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 there are options that enable you to only synchronize from one to the other. not exactly sure how to do it without having it in front of me. i'll reply later when im at home. maybe its possible to only download contracts that are in a particular folder??
Guest bal Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 thanks - your help is much appreciated
Guest shadamehr Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 there are options that enable you to only synchronize from one to the other. not exactly sure how to do it without having it in front of me. i'll reply later when im at home. maybe its possible to only download contracts that are in a particular folder?? Nope - as per my post on here about a month back. With Nokias, Nokia PC Suite lets you sepcify the Contacts Folder, or sub-folder even, you wish to Sync. Exellent, if like most people, your Outlook Contacts Folder (the default one) is your PC's Email address book, and NOT your telephone contacts. Contrast with Microsoft's OWN product, ActiveSync, which will ONLY allow you to use the default Contacts Folder. How I had to get around it was by creating a couple of empty Contacts Sub-folders, MOVING my Email contacts into one of these, and using the default folder for entering my telephone contacts, and then doing a sync. I then MOVED this list of numbers into the other sub folder i had created, and then moved the original email list back to where it belonged. I now have to chop and change like this everytime I want to do some editing. The other alternative, is to move your Email address book to a sub-folder, and then in Outlook Options tell it to use this NEW sub-folder as the Default Outlook Email Address book in future - a process that sounds easy, but is convoluted and difficult to find in reality.
Guest cybercamel Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 It is possible! When you go into active sync its, Details > highlight Contacts > Settings > then synchronize only the following contacts!
Guest shadamehr Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 It is possible! When you go into active sync its, Details > highlight Contacts > Settings > then synchronize only the following contacts! Nope... Not even close mate. All this does is allow you to MANUALLY scroll through the list of contacts in the defualt contacts folder, and tick only those you want to syncronise. Not even close to what was asked, alas, also highly time consuming and laborious, and aside from which, would then mean that your Outlook Contacts Folder, which in the description above, is solely a repository for EMAIL based contacts, would then also contain all your telephone entries too. So, to be full and fair, you suggestion was a handy tip for a certain purpose, and we are pleased you mentioned it again here, but it isn't anything close to what was indicated, or what is lacking from of all things, a Nokia product...
Guest bal Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 well seems it probably easier just to type in my numbers using the SPV. I orginally asked because i have loads of numbers on my old phone which i wanted to transfer. (old phone is crap no infra-red, computer conectivity etc). Thanks for the help, though

Guest shadamehr Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 If the numbers are stored on the SIM card, then you could (if its an Orange SIM), insert it in the SPV, and use the ContactWIZ service on the phone to copy them from SIM to phone (I'm given to beleive that this is what it is for, and that it is now finally working and available). Alternatively, you might be able, if the old SIM is not an Orange one, to copy all contacts from SIM to Phone, in your old phone, place your Orange SIM in the phone, if its unlocked, and then copy accross from Phone to (new) SIM. Then place the new SIM in the phone, and use ContactWIZ. So a number of possibilities, but only you can decide if you think this is easier than typing them all into the phone by hand or not...
Guest bal Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 Thanks - i'll try ContactWIZ -i've got around 50-60 numbers to and don't really fancy typing them all in!!! Cheers for the help of everyone.
Guest bal Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 Who's those 2 birds getting off with each other under your name?
Guest bal Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 cool pictures - really livens up the forum!
Guest shadamehr Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 Thanks - as long as the general audience don't think its too close to the wind... But having said that, I've been using it for three months, and the Mods have seen countless posts I've made. But, getting back on topic, let us know if the Contact Wiz method does work for you Bal...?
