MMS problem

I'm still trying to send pics taken on my SPV thru SMS without success  . Tried the manual way as shown in previous posts. Result: Msg not sent, transferred to draft folder etc...Did not dare call Orange to transmit a sim update to activate MMS as several posts here had indicated that their phones had been messed up after the update. Guess I'll have to live without MMS.

Any one had any success with MMS?

Had the same for a while gong through pposts as mad, only to discover i didn't have it activated... Don't be scared of a sim update.. Well, it worked fine for me

Sim updates may root up your gprs settings but settings won't matter if it's not activated on your account. So I would say you probably need to call Orange.

After that go through all the posts to fix the settings if it's not going properly.

Had the same problem. Called up orange last night and MMS is working fine now. Even the MMS to EMAIL is also working smoothly. WICKED!

I am having a very weird MMS problem.

I can send picture messages to my own phone both by manually entering the number and selecting it as a contact.

I can send pictures messages to other people if i select an email address from the contact list or manaully enter it.

I cannot send MMS to manually entered phone numbers or contacts. Each time I try it fails and puts the message in the drafts folder.

The numbers I am choosing are all on the Orange network. 1 number is another SPV with MMS enabled and the other two are non picture message enabled nokias which ought to recieve an SMS about the picture message.

I've spoken to orange customer services and they are baffled. Any one else experience this problem?

I had a great experience trying to get MMS activated, but at least it didn't mess up my phone. My call to Orange went something like this -

Me: "Hi, I'm having problems with MMS on my new SPV - everytime I try to send one it says message failed"

Orange support #1: "Ok, let me see..."

He takes my phone no, password etc

Orange support #1: "Well it could be that MMS wasn't activated on your account, but it is, so I'm not sure - I'll pass you over to someone on the wirefree team"

I wait for a while to get transferred, and eventually a woman from Orange wirefree answers the phone...

Me: "Hi, I just bought an SPV and I can't send MMS messages from it - it keeps saying message failed. I just spoke to customer support and they transferred me to you"

Orange support #2: "OK. Are you calling on that phone now?"

Me: "Yes"

Orange support #2: "OK, do you have another phone I can call you back on"

Fortunately I had my old phone with me, so I gave her that number. I didn't want to complicate things by suggesting using the handsfree kit so I could operate the phone while she spoke to me! She hung up and a few minutes later called me back on my old phone.

Orange support #2: "Hello again. I'm going to ask you to do a few things on your SPV which should fix the problem"

We now go through a very tedious process of her reading the instructions of how to activate MMS to the letter from her screen, along the lines of "Press the programs softkey", "OK", "Now scroll down to item 5", "OK", "Now press the action button", "Now scroll down to number 3". This took a long time, but I figured it was easier to agree with her than say "look, just tell me what menu to open and i'll find it!" as she might loose her place on the instruction sheet... I didn't have the heart to tell her I'd rearranged my start menu so that "number 5" wasn't in fact settings! The first thing we tried was entering a username and password for MMS - no joy, so she then got me to add a new GPRS connection with the MMS settings, but then she got a bit stuck...

Orange support #2: "Ok, now move down to work connection. Press the action button, and select automatic"

Me: (Not thinking this was necessary but I didn't want to confuse her) "There isn't an automatic option - only none"

Orange support #2: "Umm, (I can hear her reading the steps off the screen) press back, and then open the GPRS option again. Is it there now?"

Me: "No, still only the none option"

Orange support #2: "Ooh dear, it says here that you should set to automatic. If you could just wait a moment I'll go and get a handset and have a look"

I waited a few minutes while she went off in search of an SPV (she'd be lucky to find one I thought!!)

Orange support #2: "Hello again. I've got the handset now. It's nice isn't it? I'll just go through the steps myself"

I can hear her for a few minutes going through the steps on the screen. We're about half an hour into the conversation by this point.

Orange support #2: "Ooh dear, this doesn't have an automatic option either. If it's ok, i'll go and ask a supervisor and call you back in a few minutes?"

She then hung up, and I waited for about 10 minutes until she rang back.

Orange support #2: "Hello again. I've spoken to a supervisor and he said there isn't meant to be a work connection, so set it to none"

She then takes me tediously through setting up the rest of the connection, and sets MMS to use it. I try sending an MMS again. It doesn't work.

Orange support #2: "Ok, did it work that time?"

Me: "No, still not working"

Orange support #2: "Ooh dear. I'm not sure what it could be - do you have MMS enabled on your account?"

Me: "Well the guy I spoke to first said I did"

Orange support #2: "I'll just check for you" "No, it's not enabled on your phone - i'll just do that for you"

I recieved the SIM update, and voila - I could finally send MMS'. This was over an hour after after i'd placed my original call, and I did consider killing the sod who originally told me MMS was enabled when it wasn't! To be fair, she'd tried her best even though perhaps she could have checked MMS was enabled before we started the tedious "press 1, press the action key" business. I was surprised I hadn't fallen asleep by this point!

My opinion - it's worth calling Orange to get MMS enabled; it won't hurt your SPV, just make sure they actually do it! As for Orange tech support - thank god for this forum! Wouldn't be surprised if some of the staff post questions here - maybe that's why it took her a while to phone back! :D

I'm having exactly same problem as johnsoane - MMS works for photos to e-mails but I can't send MMS to any of my mates who've just taken the plunge and bought SPV's.

I've rung 156 many times but with no joy. I'm waiting for an e-mail back from them.

Anyone else got any good ideas? (I've had my MMS activated and I've been through all the settings as talked through by the Orange guys (and what I've seen posted in this forum)

ENSURE:

1 - you must have the sim update from Orange to enable MMS. If you can get a mate to send you a MMS and you recieve it ok (i.e. not a SMS message telling you to pick up the MMS from the internet) then you are enabled.

2 - When sending the MMS, make sure the number is in international format - i.e. with the +44 prefix (for UK mobiles)

3 - Make sure these are NO spaces in the number - when you create numbers in Outlook with a country code it will usually stick a sapce between the country code and the tel number. IF YOU HAVE A SPACE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEND THE MMS.

Lemme know how you guys get on

How do you prevent Outlook putting the gap in the contact list?

If I use +44 then it puts a gap into the number, if I use 0044 then it doesn't, but that is a pain and will the number still work if I'm calling from abroard on a roaming network?

Thanks

Read here for solution:

There are a few more topics on this in the forum. Also see Outlook Number Reformatter (somewhere here too) which will do the dreadfull process for you. I personally would do that myself if not too many no's. But please(!), do that on your PC in Outlook, not SPV keypad - hehehe

Make sure you alter PC telephony settings so it does not put a f***g space in the number!! This Outlook....

I can confirm that the +44 and the space was causing my problem.

I had thought, incorrectly, that the +44 space problem only affected SMS.

Thanks for the help everyone

When I send an MMS pic msg to an Orange phone (T68 etc), it arrives as a text message saying they have to go on the net to look.... how can I get it so it appears on their phone?

I rang 156 I spoke to a guy named Jason and he seemed to know what he was talking about and sorted my MMS within a few seconds of me finishing my explanation.

Its like most of these places they have good staff and bad staff

I tried to send an MMS from the SPV to a T68i. I got the message that i have to goto this site to download it. I went to the site and it said "Page too big to send back".

Then again a mate tried to send me a MMS from his GX10. Still same problem...No pic..only the message.

Dont know anyone with an SPV so i guess i stuck here :D

HA HA! Your a star!!!!!! :D I've been trying to send MMS piccies for the last couple of days... Been on the phone to Orange a few times (much like the previously documented conversation)... It would appear that it was the SPACE in the number being dialled that broke it!! Nice one. I'll see if that fixes my brother-in-laws phone. He had the same problem, i.e. unable to send moved to draft folder... Many thanks!!!
