spv - sim unlocked - upgrade???

hi guys...after a lot of faffin around getting back to bl 0.98 i finally managed to sim unlock my spv and am using an o2 sim at the mo..however in the process the phone is now sort of unreliable (slow, freezing screens, unable to load some progs - i have de-certed as well!) my question is -> if i upgrade to the most recent orange rom version will the phone remain sim free???
