Guest andyc Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 Can anybody tell me if there is a way of seting up the MPX200 to allow me to access my corporate email via active sync and also connect to the internet without having to change the settings all the time? When i sync i must connect to our corporate APN, exchange server not connected to the internet. But when i connect the device to my laptop it picks up the proxy settings. Then the connection never finds the server on our network beacause it thinks it needs to go out over the proxy settings. I cannot find a way of excluding addresses in smartphone in the same way you can in IE6 proxy settings to tell it the server is on the network and not out over the proxy server. I can get it to work by setting the internet connection to our own APN. but then i cannot get out over the internet without going and changing the connection settings, pain in the proverbial. Please help it's driving me mad.
Guest ashley Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 You need to search for a post on how to access the internet using pass through connection. This will allow you to sync from the cradle and then via gprs without messing around. I set this up yesterday and it works a treat. Ashley
Guest andyc Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 Thanks. That seemed to do the trick. Clever little phone.
Guest andyc Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 I spoke to soon. It let's me sync over the air and connect to my exchange server via oma. But i cannot get on the internet with out fiddling with the gprs settings. I don't think there is a way around it. Also i don't understand how the proxy settings work. Does anybody know?
Guest martin Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 Also i don't understand how the proxy settings work. Does anybody know? Basically instead of using a direct internet connection you can opt to use a proxy server which sits between you and the Internet. How have you got everything setup ?
Guest andyc Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 Internet connection auto. I do have a vodafone internet APN set up over GPRS and if set it to this i can connect to the internet. But set to auto i cannot. If set to internet apn i cannot sync to email at work. Work connection auto. But i have a GPRS connection to our private APN. Proxy is automatically set after connecting to my laptop. From My corp network To internet Proxy corporate proxy sever:80 type http user blank password blank With this setup i can connect to my corporate email. But i cannot connect to the internet. Let me know if you need any more info. Thanks.
Guest martin Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 I was gonna check a couple of things but I managed to break my phone  New one tommorow  I suspect the SPV active sync uses the Internet connection by default for remote synch but as I said I cant check it at the moment. If its so then I would try this - turn things around  An experiment. Delete the proxy cos I don't think you are using it. In fact delete everything that you don't use. Hopefully you should just have 2 GPRS connections with the Internet APN and the corporate APN. I assume that you don't use the WAP APN. Set the Internet Connection to your corporate APN. Set the Works connection to the Internet APN. In the Inbox - Email setup change it to use the Internet connection (which will use the corporate APN) On the PC active sync settings change the pass through connection to works connection. In Internet Explorer Menu-Options-connection untick auto detect settings and make 'Select Netwok: My corporate Network' In data conenctions The Internet connection should only have the Corporate APN selectable. Th Works conenction should have the Internet APN , pass through and automatic selectable. Set it to Automatic. The only problem is that MSN also uses the Internet Connection so it would attempt to use your corporate APN. If it IS possible to get the SPV active synch to use the works connection then you could turn these settings back round. Hopefully I will get my phone tommorow so I can play :D
Guest andyc Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 Thanks Martin. Settings now : Internet : Corp APN Work : Auto, but internet apn selectable IE connection set to my corp. Active sync works ok. IE can browse internet but cannot browse corp network, oma.
Guest martin Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 IE can browse internet but cannot browse corp network, oma Try switching IE between 'The Internet' and 'The works' connection under Menu-Options-Connection (untick Auto detect settings) Really it would be much better to have the option of setting active sync to to remotely connect via the works connection rather than the Internet conenction. If it can't be done then maybe this is something that could be requested for future software releases ? I should have my phone replacement today so I try checking the registry.
Guest andyc Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 I've checked about setting the connection for activesync and there is no way that i can find of telling it which connection to use. Very restrictive of you ask me.
Guest andyc Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 That should ave been "if you ask me."
