Upgraded to an E200 this week, after staying with the original SPV since Nov 2002. The phone was offered to me when it first came out for £179. I waited, and upgraded my SPV to the latest rom. The SPV has been good and even though it is slow, it has been an excellent tool for the past year. Anyway, I enquired about an upgrade this week and I was offered on for £29.99, which I considered was good seeing as I'm on a very low tariff.

The E200 soon arrived and it looked dam good. Plugged it in, charged it for the required time and I have been using it for the past two days. I'm not too impressed, in fact I'm thinking of sending it back before the 7 days are up.

There are quite a few problems as have been discussed on this forum. But my main criticism is that it not even as good as the SPV it in some respects.

The first problem is the battery. 11 hours I got out of it today after moderate use. This is from full charge to almost completely drained. I took my SPV off charge at the same time this morning and although it has remained unused today, it still had 75% charged after 11 hours. In fact I could get 36 hours out of it with moderate use, which meant that it only had to be charged every second night. The E200 cannot be considered viable as I may spend over 12 hours away from the house during a working day, and I certainly dont want to be charging my phone at work or in the car during the day!

The second point, which has also been mentioned before is the lack of sound in MMS. The whole point of having an integrated camera in a the phone is to make MMS more accessible, almost as easy as SMS. But then to leave out the sound support is ridiculous. Again the trusty old SPV could send MMS with sound, although the camera was never around when you needed it. Again, another backward step.

The joystick on the E200 is a nice touch, but ever so sensitive. Already I have had problems with selecting an item only to find that I have accidentally pushed the joystick up and in instead of just in, leading to the wrong selection and the possibility of deleting something when you dont mean to, or going online when you shouldnt. Maybe it will take some time to get used to it.

Bluetooth is a joke, as the range is very poor. Clarity on a headset beyond a metre is non-existent. It is definitely not a reason to upgrade.

The screen is very impressive, but may be the cause of the power drain and the poor battery life. The SD card problem should be addressed immediately, as again what’s the point of having external storage if it cant be used without killing the battery.

Other problems exist, but as yet I have not come across them. In fact I consider myself lucky as my phone doesnt buzz like some. I am now not sure whether to return the E200, go back to my SPV and wait for the new breed of smartphones later this year, or keep the E200 and wait for a software upgrade. Lets see how the next few days go...

didnt realise the battery life was that bad on the E200--you tried switching bluetooth off>?

ive just upgraded to the MPX200 from a year with the SPV (of which i love  ) and its great im glad with my choice.

it has better battery life than my SPV

looks sexy

does sound on MMS *just tried it

is very fast--about as fast as the E200 just browsing around

and has a nice big keypad with an SPV style D-pad

no camera or bluetooth but it looks like what your looking for

i also struck a deal to get 500 free texts a month and a few others have got double minutes (see the MPX200 forum)

good luck on what you do anyway :D

The build of 2002 Moto use is great, a million miles away from the buggy mess i started to think SP2002 was, and 2003 seems to need more work, or at leased Orange's implementation of it does.

PS the Moto is GREAT!

Moto is just as fast as the E200---its a hell of alot less buggy than the WM2003 crap on the E200 at the minute--and i like my battery to last more than 24hours thanks :( :(

(ooooooh fighting talk, E200ers vrs MPXers  :D )

me too even though i own a E200 yep the battery sucks and the motorola wins on that one but you must admit it is a shame a new mobile that came out after the spv E200 should have had the newest software on it + camera+ bluetooth ,i wanted the motorola but for me if i wanted the older software then i would keep my old spv ( which i still have ) its a shame and i look forward to the next motorola phone ( 80% of my phones over the last 5 tears have been motorola's) so a moto fan......
