Guest MIKE-P Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 Hi, Hope someone can help! I have an original SPV which I purchased last May. The 1.6 update was applied when it became available. For the past 2 weeks I have had a problem where the phone 'freezes' when in an application for more than a few minutes. I get a circular 'dial' which just continues to revolve. It is fine when I just use it as a phone! Any ideas? I have spoken to Orange and they have given me details of their handset repair people but that could take 4/5 days. Thanks for your help. Mike
Guest peekie Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 which programme is it that freezes ???
Guest Matt Kirby Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 It sounds like the phone is shutting down unwanted background tasks- usually this is very quick but it depends on how many aps are open. If you get one of the task managers or X-Bar you can close aps down yourself when you know you have finished with them- or just before you start a memory hungry program.
Guest zeta101 Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 also have u been installing a lot of things on the phones memory as opposed to the SD card? you need to try and keep as much of the phones memory free as possible otherwise it will slow down, make sure u dont have lots of ringtones stored on the phones memory (put them on SD card) as well as applications etc
Guest MIKE-P Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 Thanks for your ideas so far. I don't really have to many applications installed. About 5 games which are all installed to a 256mb SD card. The phone has frozen while playing games, browsing the internet, using calendar, in fact any time i'm not just using it as a phone! Before the 1.6 update I had at least 20 games installed but I haven't got round to putting them back on the phone yet. I'll try a task manager this evening. Thanks again Mike
Guest martin Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 There's another quick way of checking the phone. Load Smart Explorer, highlight IPSM and goto File-Properties. At the top of screen it will calculate the total number + total KB of files in IPSM. I have 121 files totalling 964kB in IPSM which leaves plenty of free phone memory for general use
