Guest mantrac Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 Is it just me or has the battery life of the SPV become even shorter since this bodge-job of an update (1.6)?? My phone goes down 1 bar with hardly any use (a few text messages) within 3 hours!! Ouch...
Guest siu99spj Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 Yeah I seem to be getting the same. Before I could stretch it out to 3 days, usually having a whole day on 3 bars. Now I'm lucky if its got more than one by the end of the day! I did use to get the problem occaisonally BEFORE the update, but that was fixed by draining the phone completely (Till it turned off) and then a full charge. Even that don't seem to work now...
Guest solo Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 I have noticed an increase in battery life, as well as an increase in free memory. Maybe something else is wrong. Have you tried any of the battery saving tips in this forum? Solo
Guest zeta101 Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 i think the majorty of people have had better battery life after the 1.6 update, so its possible that your bad battery life is due to something else...as solo said, try the battery saving tips and hope it improves

In my experience, the 1.6 update is better than the E100 1.5 ROM, worse than the iMate 1.5 ROM and slightly worse than the SPV 1.3.5 ROM.
Guest mantrac Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 Mantrac, what version of the ROM were you using before, and using as a point of comparison? In my experience, the 1.6 update is better than the E100 1.5 ROM, worse than the iMate 1.5 ROM and slightly worse than the SPV 1.3.5 ROM. My phone has exactly the same applications and settings loaded onto it, as it used to with the previous ROM. I am aware of the battery-saving tips and other than taking the SD card out (hardly a realistic solution), the other tweaks are already in place... Not sure what my previous ROM version was, but it was the first Orange UK update for the SPV, released last year (the one that screws up your Windows Media Player). The other thing I've noticed is that my phone now switches its light on at random times for NO REASON! It used to do that rarely previously but it happens much more often now... Two more weeks left!!! Then I'm flogging it to some unfortunate person on eBay and buying a proper phone!
Guest solo Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 How to do charge your battery? I find I get longer times if I charge with the phone switched off... Solo
Guest mantrac Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 How to do charge your battery? I find I get longer times if I charge with the phone switched off... Solo I wouldn't be surprised if those idiots who designed this phone and software have allowed the battery to be used simultaneously with the power adapter
Guest roke Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 I wouldn't be surprised if those idiots who designed this phone and software have allowed the battery to be used simultaneously with the power adapter Then just put the charger in the phone, and remove the battery when charging. You will see that the phone doesn't use the battery at all, because it keeps working. As a result, charging when on or off will give no difference
Guest KimMadsen Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 I have definitely been getting longer battery time with 1.6 along with a much more responsive phone... 1.6 is a good update... only problem I see is clicking the hangup button while IE is trying to connect to something via GPRS.. will upset the GPRS stuff, and make GPRS reconnection difficult until phone is rebooted or possibly IE being killed. I tried to install one of those battery monitor applications, and after having done that, the battery time was severely decreased!!! After uninstalling and turning phone off and on, Im back to the good battery time. best regards Kim Madsen
