Guest fb Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 Hi Guys, I noticed that both the Big and Little G's are "on" on the main display while using GPRS, and only the Little G when not using GPRS. Does it mean I'm still connected (and possibly being charged?) Thanks FB
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 I have seen the G symbol on occasion but not constant on mine as a boot removes the G until your next session of GPRS or MMS. On the main screen you should have two G symbols, a G inthe center of the screen and a small g by the signal bars. The small g is only displayed when using the GPRS service. so if you have that displayed you should be connected. When the flip is close though there is a G by the signal bars on the LCD which confuses things
Guest fb Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 Strange... To be more precise: * I have always a G by the signal bar on the front LCD even after reboot. * I have always a G by the signal bar on the main screen even after reboot. * I get a Big G in de middle when using MSN Messenger or IE, which goes away after I quit the applications. My MPX200 is from Hong Kong without any locks whatsoever; does that matter? I happen to have an Xphone here as well (just to complicate things)... There's always a Big G in the middle and no G by the signal bar yet (but haven't configured GPRS yet...)
Guest np27np27 Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 The little G near the signal bar is suppose to represent the fact that GPRS is accessable in the area that you happen to be in. The bigger G in the middle part og the screen means that your phone is using GPRS. However i have found that even if you close any applications using GPRS the G remains. But I dont think it means we are being charged. Only a reboot seems to get rid of it on my phone.
Guest mpd98 Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 I think np27np27 has got it the wrong way round - as far as I know, the big G in the middle of the screen represents the fact that GPRS is available to you, although it doesn't always show on boot up. The little g represents the fact that you are currently using GPRS. Issue is confused because when you end a GPRS session, and you close the phone, a small g still appears on the lcd. However, this merely represents the fact that GPRS is available, in the same way as the big G does with the phone open. Or something.
Guest lawsonium Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 Ok, The small g on the homescreen icon bar in the top right hand corner of the signal bar icon shows that you are using gprs. It will disappear once you disconnect from gprs. The large G in the middle of the icon bar on the homescreen shows that gprs is available. This will only be displayed when you have connected to gprs and will stay even when you have disconnected. It will disappear after a re-boot. The G on the lcd screen when the phone is closed (which is confusingly just above the signal bar's!!!) simply means that gprs is available and does not mean you are connected. This icon will also disappear after a re-boot and only re-apears after you have connected to gprs. Hope this clears things up :-) Matt.
Guest fb Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 Ok. I was a bit confused... Today I switched back using my good old MPX200 again... GPRS "ON" icon is visible when in use only. GPRS "available" icons are always visible. They don't go away after reboot. Hmmmm.... Is this carrier dependent?
Guest mpd98 Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 lawsonium's and my post say exactly the same thing, except his is much clearer! Read lawsonium's post - I'm sure you'll get it then.
Guest lawsonium Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 Thank you mpd98. **** Please note **** This is my 50th post. Drinks all round
