M1000 only for business customers

So the SPV M1000 is released by Orange at last.....BUT there are no plans for it to be available to anyone without a business account.

Well I've been holding out for this product and staying on a high tariff to ease the upgrade cost. No point now. I think I can get a good deal from various O2 providers as a new customer so it's goodbye Orange.

What on earth are Orange's marketing department thinking of ?!

Exactly. They're marketing the phone to us by selling it to businesses, but then when we discover it's not available on Orange non-business, all their would-be-customers, will have to get it on O2.

Personally I'd miss Orange a lot, but then again O2 do have very good Online Plans.

No harm in giving Retentions dept a call and see if they will do you a deal.

Retentions won't be able to offer you something if its only available to Business customers.

Besides I was in training for the M1000 the other day...

Now don't get me wrong this is a cool little gadget but it ain't that good... Line 2 isn't supported and MMS doesn't work so not only can you not send sound (like the E200) but you can't even send pictures now!!

Strange in that the O2 XDA II on which this is the reference design, does allow it...

So where you getting that info from?

Not good news then...

You see, I got my first ever Smartphone/SPV, the E200 in November.

Doing so of course meant a new contract, with a new network, as I had always been O2 (p*ss poor service, excellent online tariffs but!)

Alas, what happens, but of course the O2 Xphone (an E200 with double the memory and newer firmware), is to be released by them.

Additionally of course, the XDA II is just screaming out to me "buy me".

Alas, given some terrible run-arounds from Orange over my E200 and issues it has, and thus meaning that the ONLY real reason to ever use Orange, that of good service, just went out the window, this means that:

1) Orange have done nothing (sorry, I'm speaking from experience here) to indicate to me why I should stick to them as a network in terms of better customer service.

2) The E200 I have, I could get on O2 sometime soon

3) The Pocket PC (the XDA II/M1000) 'seems' to be poorer on Orange, as opposed to O2 (if it is true, that O2's version has full MMS support) - If you read their info on it though, it sure as hell sells itself on this basis.

4) Orange have shot their foot off anyhow, in terms of it only being available on Business tariffs. Whereas with O2, anyone can get it, including even O2 Online customers...

So overall, because of all of this, Orange have just gave me every excuse or reason, to stay with O2 in future...

The last thing you would expect of Orange, given all that is said about them...

[end rant - but its all true and correct mind you!]

Ditto to all that. I really want an XDA 2 / M1000 but as Orange aren't offering it to a lowly minion like me I am quite happy to leave them and join O2 to get it. Bye bye Orange.. you've lost another customer!

Ben.

i bought the xda2 on o2 contract before the m1000 came out.

There is of course the option of buying sim free, you can get it for £600 from www.expansys.com

Probably less in you hunt about.

Are O trying to commit suicide with this policy????

I had the same problem, held out for an m1000, was on a reasonable contract with O and having bills of near £100 a month (not intentional by the way!!!) and they said there was nothing they could do as i wasn't a buisness customer, then thought about holding out till the mpx but will probably only have the same problem with orange, so said goodbye to O and got an xda2 on O2. To be honest all networks have their pros and cons so i dont really hold a loyalty to any, just the one i can get the phone i want on the cheapest. Anyone unsure of getting one though i must say they are amazing!!! If you hunt around you can get one pretty cheap, i managed to haggle it down from £250 on o2 200 to £150 on same contrat from the link, as they were the only place in portsmouth to have one in stock.

am new here - my first day of posting here ever.

Here is what i have been able to find out about this phone (M1000) from Orange

This is being marketed in 3 countries, - in Denmark to Business & Residential customers, and in UK and France to business customers only. Not just any business customers, many people have posted here and on xda-developers forums that you have to have 50 lines for your business. This is what i found when i called orange uk, they wouldn't even talk to me till i told them i have over 50 employees (as if). One person said he was told he needed 500 employees, but this seems to be an exception.

As stated by others, this is a lunatic decision for Orange to have taken.

I have searched the internet for buying these.

This was selling, apparently briefly, on Expansys (UK online electronics) but they have sold all they had and are not expecting any more at the moment, as far as i know ( i phoned them about it). I believe it was selling for over £500

There is one Danish site which is offering this on a Denmark Orange Tariff, but I am sure that you would need to give them a Danish address to be able to buy this from Orange Denmark, - i could be wrong. According to current exchange rates, the amount they were asking for was over £400, and that was on a Danish Orange Tariff of at least £30 a month. Not much use to a UK person, unfortunately.

I will be getting a few of these models (unwanted upgrades by some friends who are in a big enough company, but don't particularly like PDA 's as phones) over the next few days, i will beposting one on ebay today or tomorrow, which i will start the bidding at £400 ish.

If anyone wants to approach me outside Ebay, and you live in the London area, contact me please.

Good luck with this, and there is a good review of this, including pictures and videos taken with it, on this URL

All the best, and what a gr8 site. I intend to unlock the phones before selling, have any of you used the fantastic tool for unlocking on the Orange spv m-1000 specifically?

Cheers

I would love to get one but am not business, and going over to O2 would mean cancelling current and starting a fresh with O.. so far to expensive at the moment.... sort it out orange!!

I have a business account with Orange and have about 40 handsets on the account. After seeing the M1000 demo'd the other day I decided to get a couple.

I call the Orange business team and was told that I cant have an M1000 as they are for corporate customers only. I explained that I am a business customer but apparently there is a difference between BUSINESS and CORPORATE. To qualify for corporate you have to have over 50 phones among other things.

After about 45 minutes of arguing I managed to get them to agree to transfer my account to corporate and agree that I am able to have an M1000.

After calling back and chatting to the Orange Corporate team they tell me that I can have the M1000 for £440!!!! HOW MUCH! I can take a new contract with O2 for £239!

I also asked the Corporate team why the M1000 is corporate only, the reason: "Normal Orange customer service staff are not sufficiently skilled to support the complex hardware of the M1000"!! and "If you were to call customer services they would not even know what an M1000 was"!!

Nice one Orange.

Surely its no more complex than the Smartphone range? To be honest the M1000, being a Pocket PC, should be more established as they have existed for longer?!

Posted

I completely agree with you Brody, but after the fiasco I had with Orange customers services with my faulty phone last week I think they are right in saying that their staff aren't sufficiently skilled.

My conversation took this line:

Me: Hi, I've just received a new E200 and its faulty.

OCS: What phone is it?

Me: Its and E200.

OCS: An Nokia E200?

Me: No, and SPV E200 - its an Orange signature phone.

OCS: Oh, I didn't know there was a Nokia E200.

Me: Its not a Nokia, its HTC.

OCS: Whats that?

Whats troubling is that Orange seem to be aware of the shortcomings yet a) Don't seem to want to do anything about it and :D Are releasing another 17 signature phones this year!!

I agree that unfortunately a number of OCS staff seem to be ignorant to their own SPV range but to withhold the M1000 for this reason seems stupid to me when they aren't following this policy with Smartphones? Don't get me wrong, I don't want them to withhold Smartphones from the public! I suppose releasing the M1000 to the public would make the situation worse...

Explain this then, the M1000 is available to retail channels in Denmark, does that mean that the Danish OCS is better than the UK/French?

Posted

And clearly if O2 are selling XDA2's to anyone that wants one then the O2 customer service team must be better than Orange!
