M1.4GHz/512MB laptop so slow to produce smooth AVI 4 SPV?

I think my computer is not bad. a Intel M1.4GHz/512MB, RADEON9200/32MB video card, 40G

laptop. I have tried every software I can download i.e. DVDX, VideoEdit converterpro,

Virtualdub, TMPGEnc.. both the one software for all solution and the several steps

conversion solution. But ass I tried the different softwares or different Video/audio bit

rate, I always get the output AVI or wmv files with the unsmooth playback. If there is a

fast movement in the film, there will be a lot of the indents around the actors/objects.

Typically I use 120kbps video, DivX5.02, 16k mono mp3 audio as my configuration.

Usually this is due to the low speed of the computer for a high bit rate conversion job.

But since I use the bit rate even as low as 80K and still get the same result I started to

wonder if it is a computer speed problem or something else.

what kind of machine do you guys use to convert the DVD to DivX AVI or wmv? Could anybody

tell me what is wrong?

Thanks!

i very much doubt ur machine is a 1.4MHz, i think you mean 1.4GHz. Which is a reasonable machine, comparable to my own. It does take a while (ie over an hour) to convert a film from dvd down to a suitabley compressed avi for use with a smartphone.

Are you refering to unsmooth playback on an smartphone? if so is it an original SPV? these tend to be a bit slow at video playback.

If you're still unsure download some of clint eastmen's trailers that he's made for the SPV (don't try the MPX200 ones unless of course you own one). These clips are designed for use with pocketmvp.

Hope that's some help.

Sorry it is Intel M1.4GHZ.

The problem is the DVD->AVI/wmv process. the output avi files can't even play smoothly on my laptop pc. I have downloaded some clips made by others to my SPV and it is just looks fine.

Do you have any Anti-virus progs running ?. It is worth ending all tasks that are not needed for any video encoding.. Also what speed is your hard drive ? - this can also cause poor encoding if the speed is too slow.

The golden rule is - close all and end all that is not required. Video encoding uses alot of system resource.

one problem can also be yourself if you are using an divx programme you must do the same as some cd burners and walk away ect ,as even going online can screw up the conversion, seen it many times take a long time to make a film only to see the sound is not going with the video,i have a laptop to and mine is a 1.8ghz and i cannot convert and do anything else ,i find the best time to do these things is just before bedtime as then when you wake all is complete and importantly perfect
