Guest mcwarre Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 Doesn't backup Calender/email/contacts/tasks. (although this can be done manually) why leave this out?? Bit silly really!
Guest martin Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 How does it deal with the registry ? There is an option to do a a full backup and restore of the registry within the PHM registry program itself so would this have to be done separately ?
Guest peekie Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 try and join the beta programme as all the ideas and input might make it to the final release
Guest kjk Posted February 3, 2004 Report Posted February 3, 2004 i resieved a mail today i can't be a beta tester  Dear Sir or Madam, Because of the large amount of BETA-test appliances we had to make a random selection of people to become a BETA-tester. Unfortunately you were not selected as a BETA-tester for the product ALL-backup. Thank you for your appliance. Regards, ALL-locations
Guest jason8 Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 Yay! I've been accepted as a beta tester... I'm going to test this app out now, i'll let u know how it goes...
Guest demonz Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 i too am beta tester, woohoo. Lets see how it works on my moto....
Guest smittyofdhs Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 Sprite Software is in beta4 of their backup software and it backups everything, including contact/calendar/tasks. What it the point of backing up everything except these items? How absurd is that... sounds like typical software from all-locations. I'[ll stick with Sprite as they have proven themselves already in the PPC world as being the premiere backup software company.

One sync and there back on your phone

One sync and there back on your phone  yeah except if I'm on a business trip and didn't bring my laptop with me....then I'm screwed, right? Yes, everything including apps are on my PC and I can just reload them with 1 sync but that's not the point of the backup. The point of the backup is to have the ability to restore the device at ANY given time, even while on a business trip or away from my PC. So again, what's the point of a backup that doesn't fully backup everything on the device?
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 You can back-up your contacts with Orange Backup!? Can't you... on the go! And there is a program called Phone Backup that can backup your contacts to the SD card .. and restore them afterwards... (on the go...)! Unfortunately this was part of the "Mitac bundle" - so it never really made it to the SPV scene...
Guest hodula1 Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 smittyofdhs makes a very good point. Why would I want to have different source of backups for different things. I have used Sprite software for pocket pc and have been very impressed with it(actually, I love it). It backs up everything and even compresses it too (in a very short time too). Everytime I install something new on my Toshiba PDA, and everything works fine, I create a new backup (about 30MB in less than 5 mins) and store it in my flash memory. I use the Sprint Yiso CF card on my PDA and don't like using the battery. This sometimes causes a hard reset, but in less than 4mins, I have my PDA restored. Don't have to wait till I get to my laptop to get my contact list. Disclaimer: I do not work for Sprite or any of it affiliates. Just a happy customer.
Guest smittyofdhs Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 sprite also allows for encryption on the backup file to protect the data in the event you device or SD card is stolen. Also, it manages backups for you. If you want to archive 3 different backups it will manage those for you, so when you get to the fourth backup it will delete the oldest one, so that you have 3 full backups at anytime. It does so much more then all-backup is offering. Likewise, after using all-locations GPRS counter, I have decided to stay away from all all-locations software.
