Guest nikscap Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 This program will allow you to backup and restore (!) personal and system data of your Microsoft smartphone. In this way you can either upgrade ROM of your smartphone or move your data to a new Microsoft smartphone - both without any problems. Sprite Software Originators of Ghost Screenshots of this program [url=http://www.spritesoftware.com/downloads/SpriteBackupforSmartphone1_0b4.zip]Download ( 1.72 Mb )

Guest exphile Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 When you say try brfore you buy...would it be possible for me to backup one of my MPX200 and restore to my other without buying or is it limited features........?
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 Is this doing the same things as the All-Explorer release on the front page ?
Guest kjk Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 When you say try brfore you buy...would it be possible for me to backup one of my MPX200 and restore to my other without buying or is it limited features........? YES
Guest drblow Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 I'm not entirely sure what it does!! I DLed this last night, & made a backup, but all I get is an unrecognised file in a folder the app created (called smartphone backups). But if I clikc the file on the PC it doe not recognise it, and says windows cannot open the file. Loads a use that is!! I got on the all-locations beta test - so arse to this pile of nonsense!!
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 You have to be a far braver soul than me to try a restore with this unless you've got a spare testbed phone. I wouldn't go near it until I'd heard plenty reports of success
Guest mrdanne Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 When i started Sprite Backup the first time it said somthng like this: "Sprite Backup is running in Unprivileged mode" I guess it can't access my private data, e.g. Inbox. Any suggestions what it means and what I can do about it? /Daniel

Guest deepak Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 i tried this one and its working so smooth...instead of taking a backup on the pc i just took it on the sd card ..A back up is a backup is a backup...with loads of software being pumped everday on modaco and so many skins i was at times scared of loosing all my data on my new xphone... answering to a few coments made above...well when u want to restore, be it from the pc or the storage card..u just cant go to the data file and click on that to restore but u will need to go to sprite again and use the resore option there...(basics). This trial say will expire on the 31st of march means post that if u happen to crash your smartphone you will have to buy sprite to make good use of the backup if u need it.. The worst incident for me in life was my (mitac mio) X smartphone when just crashed...so i see a lot of meaning in the one which released it first...feel safe now u know
Guest lutzh Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 I'm not entirely sure what it does!! I DLed this last night, & made a backup, but all I get is an unrecognised file in a folder the app created (called smartphone backups). But if I clikc the file on the PC it doe not recognise it, and says windows cannot open the file. Â Loads a use that is!! I got on the all-locations beta test - so arse to this pile of nonsense!! drblow, why would you open this file on your desktop? this is a backup file from your smartphone and the only use it has is to be restored on your smartphone, right? i've tested the versions up to the latest and have to say its working perfectly. i know sprite backup for ages from pocket pc software so they are at least as trustworthy as ALL-Locations. cheers, lutz
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 What sort of size are the back-up files ? This is going to be important if the back-up is done to SD card. Personally I don't keep SMS / emails and most things are installed on the card.
Guest lutzh Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 hi disco-buddy, well the good thing is that you can choose weather you want to do the backup to card or directly to the desktop (see image 1 that shows the icon of sprite backup in the task bar). the size of the backup is small (some 3.x mb in my exaple shown in pic 2) since its packed. all i can say is that it does a good job... cheers, lutz
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Cheers lutzh  Looks like this is a better bet than the All-Locations alternative so I'm going to give it a go.
Guest lutzh Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 stu, i cant say to be honest. i havent checked all location since i am not on board of the beta test (are you?). let the price be the all about factor at the end of the day... cheers, lutz
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 No, I'm not testing the All-Locations. To be honest, after the fiasco with the Orange WM2002 attempt I'm a bit afraid of what these tools might do to my nice new shiny E200... I'm trusting you on this one though mate  Price just doesn't come into it - I'm happy to pay big bucks for something that avoids the hassle of re-building the phone after hard reset etc
Guest kjk Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I use this today and this is first and last time i use it coz after restore i can't remove app from my phone if i go to settingremove programe there is nothing to remove so i have to install every thing manually to get app in remove list so it's backup every ting??? if you want every thing normaly so you have to install every thing manually i would like to ask what sprite back up does??
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 kjk, calm down dude or you'll never get to my age  Surely you can use ActiveSynch's Add / Remove function ? I have rarely used the phone's Settings Add / Remove tool as I have too many things installed. Is that the only problem with Sprite ? If so, it's pretty minor in my eyes. Have a nice weekend mate :)
Guest kjk Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 you can't remove app from activsync either cos it's come there like not install so you have to install first to remove again so you have to do all work manually
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 That's odd, I would have thought that Sprite would restore the AppMgr folder which contains all the Uninstall files. Isn't that where Add / Remove Programs gets its info from ? We need lutzh again :!:
Guest kjk Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 nothing work on my phone now i reinstall all app's again but few app still not work and my GPRS , MMS,WAP,INTERNET setting every thning is gone so i have to put every thing back manuelly again but to get every thing work normally i have to do a new hard resett and put every thing manuelly back without sprite backup to get it work AND I CAN'T REMOVE THIS F,........ program from my computer too maybe i have to do a resett of my computer too now i'm pissssoff
Guest abatis Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 I downloaded the program and did a complete restore with cleaning. Works very well. A couple of unexpected things were the request to turn on the airplane mode - makes sense not to have a call or data come in during the restore. What I really liked was the fact that the program preserved file and cookie dates. That is very important with login cookies to have the file date preserved. Otherwise you may have to erase the cookie file and re-login. This program does a great job and I will buy it. What would be interesting is to do the backup with the ATT ROM installed, than flash the mot-rom and than restore . I wonder what you would get? I am not that brave.
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 kjk, did you get this sorted out ?
Guest kjk Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 yes i did a hardreset of my phone and put back every thing back manuelly and i did same with my computer
