Try Agile messenger, you can download on this site. You willfind it in the Applications forum of this site,,,it works much better than MSN, for some reason MSN on smartphone still seems to be a bit buggy.

Agile same as MSN, you use the same sign in etc, just a better app (my opinion only).

sorry i havent posted a shortcut, cant blummin remeber how to do it.

Hope this helps

Does Internet Explorer work? If it does, then the problem is to do with Messenger, if it doesn't then you have the wrong settings for O2 PAYG.

I had a problem too when I first got my SPV. I can't remember what message I got, but it was because I had entered in my password wrongly. When you enter it using a text input, you don't realise what case your putting it in, and you usually text a word in all lower case. However on a keyboard, it's very easy to hit shift, and enter an upper case letter, at the start of your password.

You probably use the 'remember password' option on your PC, so check your password, and check the case (is it Phone or phone or PHONE). The type it in again carefully on your phone, and check that you've definately got the right password. Also check your email address.

If that doesn't work then I can't think what the problem might be. MSN should work on O2 because:

a) they're releasing the E200 on O2 soon

:) they have the XDA on O2 which has MSN on it.

Hope this helps,

Matt

I just found this topic after posting something similar - I have the same problem. MSN Messenger was working fine up until a few days ago. I've downloaded Agile Messenger and that won't connect either.

(I'm also on o2 online btw)

It must be an o2 problem. Anyone else out there on o2's payg online tarif? Do you have the same problems?

I can't see any reason why it should be network specific (although it seems like the only the only explanation). MSN connects by using a standard internet connection, and going through that internet connection to the MSN server. So if Internet Explorer works, then that means you have an internet connection working, which is all the network has to do with MSN.

Are you sure that when you use Internet Explorer, you are connecting to the internet and not wap (try going to www.modaco.com/mobile and see if that works). Are you connection over GPRS or dial-up (what logo appears next to the signal bar when you are online), and are you gettng the same logo when using messenger?

Hope this helps,

Matt

I use 'wap network' settings on internet explorer, but it lets me browse the whole web (it won't access www.modaco.com/mobile for some reason though). The 'internet' settings don't seem to work on either MSN or IE. I use GPRS to connect to both.

I'm going to try re-entering my connection settings in case that is to blame.

I'll add again that neither MSN Messenger or Agile Messenger work (so the MSN update shouldn't affect it)

I think I've solved the problem after tweaking a few connection settings.

In case anyone else has this problem, this is what i use (edited from another post):

Proxy Connections:

name: 02 Wap Proxy

Connects from: The Internet

Connects To: WAP Network

Proxy: 193.113.200.195

Type:HTTP

Dial Up connection:

name: o2 CSD

Connects to: The Internet

Country code:44

Dial code: 7712

Phone num:927927

username: o2wap (NOT payandgo, which I used before)

password:password

GPRS connection:

name: o2gprs

Connects to: The internet

Access point: payandgo.o2.co.uk

username:payandgo

password:password

In Data Connections:

Internet connection is set to o2 CSD

WAP Connection set to o2 GPRS

In Internet Explorer I use 'wap network', don't detect settings.

This allows me to connect to both MSN and Agile Messenger over normal wap (GPRS only works on internet explorer for some reason). These settings may be incorrect, but they work for me at the moment, despite it taking ages to connect.

I think that url may be wrong, because it doesn't work for me either.

As for the rest, I'm just as confused as you are. The settings posted above seem to work for me (despite being far from ideal), and as I'm fed up of changing them I think I'll stick with them for now.

I wish that there was a simple solution that didn't involve all this fuss! I consider myself to be quite knowledgeable with technology, so I don't know how people with little or no technical knowledge are supposed to cope!

Sorry. The URL's changed. Tell me if http://mobile.modaco.com works. (Replace smartphone with mobile - its a site thing thats displaying smartphone instead of mobile.) Also it appears you are connecting to the internet using GPRS, but MSN Messenger using CSD (dial-up). It must be a problem with your connection settings. Does it work with you Chaos now that you've fiddled with the settings? justafiend have you tried this?

Also, this post should be in the Help and Advice section - you'd probably have got a lot more replies had it been posted there (could a mod move it?).

Hope I've been a help,

Matt

Before I found this thread I posted the same problem in the 'Help and Advice' section, and strangely this one got more replies :?

Using the settings I posted earlier, I get GPRS internet yet CSD MSN Messenger. I'm not sure why this is the case - how do you choose which connection MSN uses? Anyway, both work ok at the moment. The mobile modaco site works too. I'd like both to use GPRS, but every time I change the settings it refuses to connect - therefore I'm best sticking with what I've got unless anyone has a definitive answer. :)

Thanks for you help.
