Guest deanrh Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 indeed, it will happen eventually when smartphones become more feature rich and as powerfulas PDAs
Guest peekie Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 it may happen but not as quick as that as they have more games a touch screen word/excel ect ,the only way the smartphone will destroy the pda is when it can do the same as a pda,and not everyone wants to pay a huge phone bill just to get a pda ,i think there will be the both of them for a long time in the future i have an E200 and a pda and i like em both
Guest hodula1 Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 PDA is far from dead. As smartphones get "smarter", so would PDAs. Anyone taken a look at the IPAQ H6300? It is supposed to have Bluetooth, WIFI, SD,...and much more. Don't get me wrong. I am all for Smartphones and would gladly keep just my E200 (waiting for the MPx220), but because of features like WIFI, which I have to have, I keep looking back at PDAs. By the way, the H6300 is just a tad bit bigger than the E200(without the keyboard attached).
Guest Jabbsy Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 Interesting concept but u can flip it round and then say is Smartphone dead and is it going to be replaced by better PocketPC phones? The way people seem to describe Smartphones evolving sounds more like they are developing into a PocketPC with a phone built in............which (as we all know) is something that already exists
Guest shadamehr Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 It will happen just as soon as I can afford my new O2 XDA II... Convergence is the key, but convergence will be the death knell for stand alone PDA's in my long term opinion. Unless Paul (MVP) jumps in to tell me to steer clear of it - but it just screams out to me "Buy Me!"
Guest Jabbsy Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 Yep convergence is the key, And it seems to me that it is alot easier to put phone functionality into PDA aka (PocketPC Phone Edition)............than it is to put PDA software functionality into a phone and then gradually morph it back into a PDA again by adding PDA hardware functionality such as touchscreen as some people have suggested :?
Guest shadamehr Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 PDA's wont die out! If over time every PDA has phone functionality, then by definition, that's exactly what will have happened, as it will no longer be a PDA, but then a smartphone or whatever name they go by... Whether all PDA's will eventually include phone functionality, is a different argument. But my personal opinion is that eventually, they will. And thus then, the PDA will be dead.
Guest kelv23 Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 who cares? PDA's have +'s and -'s so do smartphones. The more gadgets the better I say......
Guest kalinte Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 i think some genius out there will merge the two into the ultimate..... what would you call it then ....... smartpda? that will be the day.
Guest peekie Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 all the pda needs is an addon bit like the camera addon ,you can get gsm cards for the laptop so its only a matter of time before some company makes a killing on making a gsm addon
Guest Spv-Kid Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Some pda's are coming with '' built in phones ''
Guest dinoalbert Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 PDAs wont die because Paul just created a new Modaco forum for it :) http://phoneedition.modaco.com/index.php anyway here's some article of a new PPC phone edition: http://www.pocketpcreviews.net/reviews/022...04/anextek2.htm
