Guest rack1 Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 ............sort out this issue around battery life on the E200? Is it just me, or is it absolutely ridiculous that you have to remove the SD card in order to get anywhere near a descent battery life! Kinda defeats the object r having the bloody SD storage if you can't keep it in the phone. Does anyone know if Orange are even looking at this problem? Sorry to rant and rave but this is really starting to piss me off now. Thanks Rack1
Guest MECX Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 More of a microsoft problem IMO. Not really oranges fault, its not there software thats killing the battery life. Im assueming they are awaiting updates from microsoft to encorperate into there update. i agree tho it is totally ridiculus. I think you could probs get a new phone--what do orange advertise as the battery life for this phone>>?
Guest ultimasnake Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 well i do know that orange (in holland) admids the problem and there might be an update around april or something (english release date they told me the dutch would ofcourse be delayed
Guest morpheus2702 Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Not really oranges fault, its not there software thats killing the battery life. Oh come on, one of the standard excuses for Orange's lack of speed in releasing updates is that 'they are approving the update for use'. Orange approve the ROM, therefore they cannot be absolved of blame for the problems experienced?
Guest ultimasnake Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 but when aproving updates you need to have them .... i think they want to scoop it all up in 1 try... and (dunno if your a programmer) but this is twice as hard to program/fix than an application :D
Guest morpheus2702 Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 uuuuh, didn't understand a word of that... :?:
Guest MECX Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 I didnt say orange wernt partly to blame but its more microsoft as they wrote the code ---like if a nokia had bugs you wouldent blame orange you would blame nokia. What ultimasnake is saying is that a program is twice as hard to fix than it is to write in the first place. It is very hard to find where the bug is and often changing a small piece of code can effect the stablility of the whole program.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Ok gotcha. Purely playing Devil's Advocate here, Orange should or should not be blamed for approving code they know to have bugs in?
Guest peekie Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 what ive heard is orange are going to wait on the update mainly because they want to kill off the upcoming simlock application , as they hope the update would relock the phones not unlocked by orange itself,so its a waiting game as there is a beta version what is used by developers for there new products look at the smart explorer problem its not a problem with the new rom update
Guest MECX Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Ok gotcha. Purely playing Devil's Advocate here, Orange should or should not be blamed for approving code they know to have bugs in? Hehe ive read lots of your posts--you like devils Advocate :D :( :( Personally i dont think Orange should have to test the phones as its all made (HTC) and programmed (microsoft) by external sources. Orange are obliged to release updates but they cant unless microsoft supply them with them. I this its a total disgrace however that orange NEVER meet deadlines they release publicly. Oh and orange are owned by France Telecomm and i believe all the updates come from them.
Guest pisquee Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 If the SIM unlock program extracts the SIM unlock code from thew phone, then this code will be the same code as if it were got from orange by buying out the contract - so it cannot relock a phone, or if it does the same unlock code will be valid. Otherwise it will be relocking phones unlocked through orange. The only thing the update could do is stop any more people unofficially unlocking their phones with the program, but stopping its ability to extract the unlock code from the phone.
Guest Mr_Protozoa Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 didn't paul try some other versions of the e200 (e.g.02xphone) and find they had much better battery life? Thus - MS could have fixed the problem (to some extent) and orange havn't got around to giving it to us! I know the battery is pissing me off too! I can listen to mp3's on the 20min stroll to work and back, make about 15 mins of calls and by tea time it's complaining about low batteries!
Guest morpheus2702 Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Hehe ive read lots of your posts--you like devils Advocate :D :( :( Damn straight! The Devil's right-hand me!
Guest Rob_Quads Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Microsoft might be the source of the problem but as far as we are concerned its oranges problem IMO. If I go and buy a Peugeot car and a small component made by this small company fails its Pugs problem as far as I concerned, they are the ones then that need to push the small company to sort it. Wonder what the service agreement between Orange and Microsoft it. If Orange find any bigs Microsoft have to fix them 'somethine' by which time no-one is using them any more?
Guest beersoft Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Ohh, this is fun NO Orange won't fix the problem, HTC will fix the problem you need to know who to blame for what Microsoft provide the software stuff - radio stack, pocket outlook/internet explorer etc... - if they don't work its microsofts fault HTC provide the hardware and drivers for the operating system and add whatever customisation the network operator wants (mms client, phone branding etc) - if something doesn't work on the phone its there fault (stuff like battery life, SD card compatability, it falling apart, things just not working etc) orange provide the phone to us punters blame them for not making calls and bills and stuff. Its like going into PCworld and buying an 'ownbrand' pc and complaining to PCworld blaming Microsoft that the graphics card drivers dont work with the wireless mouse and telling PCworld to fix the drivers as they sold it to you. sheesh! later Owen
