Any way to do an "offline" edit of contacts on my

I upgraded to the E200 from a 6310i and thought I was doing myself a favour by using the Nokia content copier to save all my contacts and stored text messages - only trouble is, I've now got a pile of useless .NCC files that I can't get onto the E200.....or can I???

The nice people  in the Orange shop copied all the contacts off the 6310i (by copying from the phone to the SIM - and losing 12 contacts along the way  - and then copying to the new SIM) but they're all single entries.........

So, after all this rambling, my question is.....can I get all the contacts on the E200 SIM copied onto the phone and then edit them back into a more useable format (i.e. NOT "John Mobil1$", "John Mobile$" etc.) on my PC using ActiveSync.....or can I delete them all and import the .NCC files???

Or am I just gonna have to get sore thumbs and edit them all manually?

Where you went wrong is using Nokia Content Copier to backup your 6310i, as its just for transfer from nokia to nokia. Technically you CAN rename the .ncc files to .csv, and load them into Excel as Comma Seprated Values, then save and import to Outlook, but this is the most longwinded and error prone you could manage.

The route you need to take (as I had this exact same issue/phone combo), if you still have the 6310i with the contacts you want on, is to instead use Nokia Syncronisation Manager, part of PC Suite, to instead import the contacts into Outlook.

BEAR IN MIND that if you already use Outlook for your Contact management, then your Outlook Contacts Folder will NOT BE EMPTY - I had this problem, which means an additional step.

If this applies to you, you need to make a NEW contacts sub-folder in Outlook, and MOVE all your current Outlook Contacts into it (these will probably be your PC/Email contacts). Ignore this step if your Outlook Contacts folder was already empty.

Now, set up a sync to your Nokia, and go ahead and sync. If you have done it correct, your Outlook Contacts Folder should now contain all your telephone numbers etc.

And there you go - now you can simply use ActiveSync to syncronise with your SPV, and your contacts will all be added.

It also means that you can edit, add, and delete contacts, on the PC, in Outlook, and it makes managing your E200 phonebook a doddle.

Rockin' idea - cheers dude!

I don't have the 6310i any more (got £30 off O for it, so the E200 only cost me £10 in the end after I gave them back one of their £10 off in our January sale vouchers  )....however, the corporate phone of choice is the 6310i, so I'll go borrow one of the spares and give it a go....

As far as the saved SMS's go, are they lost forever - they're all the "humourous" ones that I've collected over the years - or can I get them onto the E200??

I've opened the .NCC file and I can see the text of the msg quite happily; just don't know how to get it onto the phone. Also, is there a way to create a new SMS folder on the phone - I used to have a "Funny s***" folder on the 6310i, but I can't see any way of creating anything similar on the E200......

Sorry for the questions - I've looked around the forums but can't see anything that looks like it'll do what I want.

Quick reply to one of your posts...

As I mentioned, I seem to recall if you rename the relevant .ncc file to .csv, you can open it into excel, and thus save your messages that way.

No real way I know of of geting them back into an E200 alas.

If I think of one, I'll repost here though.

And you mention borrowing a 6310i, but if the numbers are on your SIM, you can use most new nokias, 7210, 6610, 7250, 8310 etc, and they can all be used to do a Nokia/Outlook sync anyhow - so it doesn't just have to be a 6310i...

Found a way around the message problem.....the Nokia Content Copier allowed me to send each of the messages it had read from the "messages.ncc" file via SMS using the 6310i I borrowed from work. So, the company will see about 55 text messages on the next bill for the phone that they thought was spare!!!! Ho hum....

So, the upshot of all this is that I now have my collection of "funnies" on my E200, but they're all in the damn Inbox - I tried doing a Move on one, but it'll only move it to Drafts, Deleted or Sent Items and won't let me create a new folder. I found an app that looks as though it'll allow me to manage my SMS messages - both on the phone and on storage - which is called SMS-Toolbox. Haven't plucked up the courage to install it yet as it looks to be a "2002" app and I don't wanna screw my phone and lose all the messages again!!! I also found ReadSMS/SendSMS which will suck them all off the phone again into Outlook, or send via Outlook - either way, they're in my email client whenever I need them.....

Thanks for all your input Shadamehr - it's been invaluable (even if I didn't follow all of it  )
