Guest morpheus2702 Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Does anyone know an easy way of finding out if a PC is fitted with USB 2.0, rather than USB ports? I go to my PC's device manager and it has all the spec about the USB ports and attached USB devices, but no info. as to whether they are USB 1.1 or 2.0. Cheers in advance.
Guest Gorskar Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 look at your motherboard manual?
Guest Gorskar Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Ok ok, hers the properties of 2 USB controllers attached to my computer... First is USB2.0, 2nd is USB1.1 I dont know if this is always the case though...usb2.gifusb1.gif
Guest morpheus2702 Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 I haven't seen the motherboard manual in months, but comparing your pictures, it would seem I only have USB 1.1. So time to fit that PCI card I have lying about. Cheers for your help Gorskar, much appreciated.
Guest Stuart P Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Probably going off at a bit of a tangent, but.. XP without service packs doesn't support USB 2.0 EHCI controllers. You'll need to put SP1 on, and then update the drivers for your card. Stu.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 Well, fitted my first PCI card last night - pop, click and YES, worked first time and no need for any additional drivers (had my Windows XP up to date), so now the proud owner of some new USB 2.0 ports (Christ how sad does that sound?!? ).
