ok-

i spend (or used to spend) a lot of time on howardforums.com...

becuase i was a Nokia and SE phone user...

anyway, i always hated it (but never commented) when some newbie would post a question that was asked a zillion times...

my turn, now.

Ok- i've searched for this but there is SO much info, it's hard to find the correct info.

I just recieved my I-mate 2 smartphone (running smartphone 2003) from expansys.us

got my email up and running, and such...but i can't figure out how to install new apps to the phone.

Active sync (on my desktop) pops up during the install, but nothing ever happens after that....

what am i doing wrong?

thanks alot...that is REALLY helpful...

just one quick question...

is it common to have the installation problem that i am having (that is, not being able to install from the desktop)?

Can you successfully connect your phone to your PC via activesync without even installing software? The answer is yes if you can connect your phone, open activesync, hit browse and browse/see files on your phone?

Is the program you are trying to install an exe file?

Also, what accessories did you get with the imate smartphone 2 from expansys.us?

i can get the phone to connect (and sync my contacts, calandar, etc) to my desktop no problem.

The files that i'm trying to install are exe files...like pocketTV.

In palm systems, the "install tool" pops up and asks you where you want to install the program, and lets you know that on the next hotsync, it will be installed.

With activesync, i'm noticing that a "add programs" (or something like that) window pops up...but the windo never finishes displaying...it sorta pops up halfway in the background, then goes away.

the phone from expansys came with the stereo headset, desktop charger and usb cable connection, and a US plug adapter (no SD memory card)...

I LOVE the phone...it's so solidly built, and has such huge potential...

i just can't seem to get my GPRS and WAP settings to stay (nor can i seem to get the right settings put in...i'm on T-mobile USA)

maybe it's the learning curve from Symbian to MS...but, i'm at a loss.

all the suggestions i've seen for settings say "look at these settings for the SonyEricsson P800 and T-mobile USA and use these"

the problem is the input fields in the I-mate are not the same input fields as found on the P800...so, that data information doesn't help...

for example...on the P800 you have, under your GPRS settings, the option to "obtain IP address automatically"...i don't have that option on the I-mate.

anyway, i'm ready to paypal someone some cash for the right settings.

For the exe file(s).... Some exe's are install files like you describe, but some are executables that must be run directly on the phone. I'm GUESSING that in your case it must be an exe that is run directly on the phone so you would need to copy the file to your phone, right click and create a shortcut, then cut/paste the shortcut to you start menu (not sure what it is on your phone with the 2003 OS, but with the 2002 OS it's under IPSM-Windows-Start Menu).

For the T-Mobile GPRS settings... This is how to do it in the 2002 OS, hopefully it's the same for your 2003?:

- Go to your settings, select data connections

- Select Menu > Edit Connections

- Select GPRS Connection

- Select Menu > Add, then enter:

- Description: T-Zones

- Connects to: The Internet

- Access Point: wap.voicestream.com

- User Name:

- Password:

- Primary AND Secondary DNS: 216.155.165.50

- IP Address:

- Select Done, Done, Done

- Under Internet Connection choose T-Zones

- For Work Connection choose Pass through connection

- For WAP Connection choose T-Zones

- Select Done, Done, Have fun!

Is the desktop charger a cradle that the phone sits up in?

uh...muh...gawd.

it works.

(the internet settings).

the only thing i changed was:

Access Point: wap.voicestream.com, i changed it to internet2.voicestream.com

i can't thank you enough!

to answer your question, yes...the charger stand allows the phone to stand up...and whats great is, that it fits in there really securely...

even better is that the cradle is ergonomic...so, while it's in the cradle, you can pick it up and comfortably hold it and use the phone...in fact, i rather like the feel of using it in the cradle...

thanks so much for your help-
