Guest zippyioa Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Hi everyone! I have been connecting to GPRS on Orange without any problems for weeks now (using my SPV) but suddenly last night I cant connect anymore. I have browsed and searched the forums here for help - but found no joy! (Please don't leave me to the mercy of Orange Technical Support - I have been there before in this lifetime, I don't think I could survive a second run-in) When i try to connect (using Internet Explorer) the big G is in the centre of the screen, the little G appears in the top right hand corner for a few seconds while the phone says it is dialling, but then I get a message saying "alert The page you are lookingfor cannot be found." Strangely the little G stays in the top corner?? I have tried LOTS of different webpages, even my e-mail won't send and receive (it say I should 'check the server settings and try again' - but I know they are right cos they worked yesterday morning!!!) ANY IDEAS ANYONE?????? PLEASE HELP ME!! Cheers Anton
Guest Vector Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Have you tried turning turning the radio off/on To do that tap the power button, and select the "Aeroplane mode on" function then when the radio is off turn it back on and try to connect
Guest zippyioa Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Thanks for the reply - sadly I tried this just now, but still get the same error message  Any other ideas - anyone? I NEED MY GPRS!!!!

See if that helps
Guest zippyioa Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Thanks for the replys, I have tried the deleting history thing and checked my settings so many times I know them of by heart now!! STILL WONT CONNECT THOUGH. I have shutdown and restarted loads of times, tried the aeroplane on / off thing...... I only want to use GPRS!! Any other ideas guys/gals???
Guest martin Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Spookey 8-[ It could be problem on the network side. Try going to IE, unticking 'Auto detect settings' and making 'Select network: WAP network'. Access www.google.com/wml and various other WML pages and see if you are getting the same problem with 'pages not found'.
Guest mjread Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 I've been having exactly the same problem since yesterday afternoon. I called OCS this evening and they told me that they've got major GPRS issues at the moment, and have since yesterday at around 6pm. I'm taking that with a pinch of salt though as that seems to be their standard response when things don't work and they can't be asked to troubleshoot (The "call back later when I'm not on shift solution"). Last time they used that line was when I couldn't send MMS messages - turned out I didn't have the ability to send MMS messages turned on on my account in the end. I would suggest keep trying - I have a feeling that my issue may be related to a GPRS package I've been trying to get removed off another number for the past 3 months. A tenner on they've removed it off the wrong number!

Guest mjread Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Im surprised you could even think such a thing Don't even get me started! I sort of left O a while back after I got the impression that OCS had started employing people who drooled far too much, but they convinced me to go onto the Virgin tarrif, so I did. At the end of last year, just before the E200 made an appearance I decided I wanted one and convinced myself my memories of O were not really that bad. In order to upgrade I had to be on a "proper" tarif, which is only fair. So I did, and asked for the GPRS package to be added as well. I then found out that this wouldn't happen until my next bill date, which funnily enough was two days before I decided to switch - nearly a month to wait. So I went through the process of seeing if I could get my bill date bought forward since I didn't actually owe them any money at this stage. No, that couldn't be done, and was told by someone who was blatantly drowning in their own drool that I couldn't upgrade to the E200 until I had been on the new tariff for at least a month. That smelt a bit, but by that time I had had enough, so decided to go for a new connection. Being as I had a new connection, I didn't need to upgrade my existing contract so called to have it stay on Virgin and the GPRS bundle removed. First bill comes in - new contract there, old contract on Virgin, but GRPS bundle on Virgin contract. Phoned up, whinged, told that they can't see it there, so must have been removed. I'll give you three guesses what I find on the next bill that comes in. So I phone up again and ask for it again to be removed (third time lucky!) Anyway, we'll see what happens this month. Ah, I feel better I've got that off my chest now. [/rant]
Guest zippyioa Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 Good morning to all who read this! I STILL have the GPRS not connecting issue and have even resorted to calling the OCS about it. The instant automated response I got barraged with from the knuckle dragger with the headset was......."We are currently experiencing a GPRS issue at the moment, so you may have trouble connecting to GPRS network until its fixed. It should have been resolved a few hours ago, but it hasn't been, so I would leave it until Saturday/Sunday then call back if its still an issue." I advised him that several of my colleagues at work who are also on 'O' could connect to GPRS fine on their SPV /E200's.......only to be told that is possible because they could all be on a different HLR to me (I have heard that before when I had an issue with no coverage - even though a freind with the same handset (T68i) was sat next to me using his inclusive minutes like there was no tomorrow - unless thats another ICBA* response) The simple fact of the matter is that OCS don't seem to spend anywhere near as much time resolving issues anymore. I have been with Orange for almost 10 years now and have seen a sad and rapid decline in the number of staff that actuallly seem to WANT to help you with an issue. I recently had 4 replacement batteries for my SPV (as they were lasting less than a day WITH NO USAGE) When I called with the fourth doing the same, I was told that they would send another - at this point I cracked and insisted that they delivered me a replacement SPV handset or I would go to trading standards - strangely they changed tune very quickly at that point and my shiny new phone was delivered within 12 hours!! Years ago, if I called with a handset problem, they would go through the issue methodically and resolve it quickly (even if that meant delivering a new handset) Now I think that either they cant be assed to help, or Orange have come down hard on the number of replacement handsets that they are going to give out EVEN IF IT IS A HANDSET ISSUE! Right now I am not a happy Orange customer..... O had better pull a finger out and either resolve the 'GPRS network issue' or they could always try listening to my problem and resolve 'MY' issue. I thank you all for reading this and trying to help me in previous responses. For those that couldn't work it out - ICBA* = I Can't Be Assed

Guest zippyioa Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 Sorry for the double reply there - got a bit carried away! MARTIN - your response about removing the tick and trying the wap connection on www.google.com/wml I just tried it. It dialled and showed the little G and moving windows flag in the top right hand corner. It stayed on this for a long time before saying: Error The page you are looking for cannot be found. I have checked all the setting from the 'GPRS settings repository' post. They are all spot on!!?? Any idea whats going on?
Guest azamsaghir Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 I too was banging my head wondering why I couldn't connect to Orange GPRS. My connections settings were all correct. It turned out my problem was with IDentify (Picture Caller ID) software application that I had installed on my phone. I de-installed that software & the no problems connecting with GPRS. Other culprits to this issue I found were Traffic Counter programs. Good luck! Azam
Guest SiDHEaD Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 I've not installed anything on mine in weeks, and it stopped working last night. Bloody irritating as I was trying to test the mobile-enabled site i was making.
Guest martin Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 Are you able to successfully send and receive a MMS message to yourself ? There is method to this madness - honest
Guest zippyioa Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 Hi Martin, Tried to send an MMS just now - it says its connecting to GPRS, then a few seconds later it says:- alert Failed to send message! Message was moved to Draft folder I got bored earlier and tried my SIM card in my wifes Samsung V200 (her GPRS was working fine using her sim card) With MY card in her phone though GPRS wouldn't connect....... I tried her card in my SPV and it connected to GPRS first time I spoke to Orange about this and was told about the HLR thing again.... my phone is on a HLR that is down, where my wifes isn't. I asked if there was any way to swap to a new HLR - he said no...... I reckon there must be...... ANY IDEAS?????
Guest mjread Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 zippyio, My GPRS connection has just sprung into life which either means that in fact O were having problems, or someone read my dig that they may have removed the wrong GPRS package off my account and have now put it back on. Either way, give it a go now and see if you have any luck.
Guest zippyioa Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 Mine still won't connect - I get the same message:- Dialing...... then.......... alert The page you are looking for cannot be found I am gong to give it till tomorrow morning, then I'm gonna call O and insist that they spend more time looking into my settings!
Guest martin Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 I spoke to Orange about this and was told about the HLR thing again Yeah, the HLR (Home Location Register) is where subscriber record is kept but it does a lot of other important things too. I had an idea that the MMS would fail to work but this does actually tell you something - not good though  Hey, at least Orange are aware of the fault this time :lol
Guest zippyioa Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 Its not the end of the world without GPRS , but I really miss not being able to send and receive emails while away from my PC, or use MSN messenger while I'm out! Is your GPRS working OK martin??
Guest bugeyes Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 Your not on your own here mine has been off since friday! :? called orange its definatly a network problem! you can still connect to the web through a pass through connection, thats the only way i could get to my orange emails on my phone! hope this clears things up! in mean time we'll just have to sit tight an wait!
Guest straff2002 Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 Me too, I have been offline since friday. Everything working fine then nothing. I require it for my work checking emails but nada. Orange said that it was a network problem and this would be fixed within 24 hours what a surprise nothing. Saturday check emails again cause the automatic won't do it and again nada. Phoned up data tech support and the "leave it for 24 hours and it will work" Sunday two minutes ago nothing. Phone up data tech support and speak to "Dan" "yep tech support told us it was working at lunchtime reset your phone for 10 secods and it will work." Let's have a guess.................sweet F.A. Ok step two phone them again. Oh yes it definitely is a network problem we will take you off of GPRS and them put you back on, just have to send you a text to take you off then another one to put you back on" Well 10minutes later still waiting for the sms msg. Orange's little boy can't be training them right!!! Updates to follow.....
Guest straff2002 Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 SiDHead SUCCESSSSSSSSSSS!!! After 3 days orange pull their fingers out. I didn't receive any sms msg (ie the update msgs) but just tried it after 5 minutes and works. so just phone up wirefree tech support (156 then option 3 then option 2 for GPRS) ask them to be taken off the GPRS network and put back on . It worked straight away. Hope it helps Straff
Guest SiDHEaD Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 I have just phoned up and asked this, i was told i would recieve an update then i would have to turn the phone off for at least a minute (battery out) and then they would put the GPRS back on my account in a couple of hours. He reckons that will solve it.. we will see
Guest bugeyes Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 Yeah i got told the same on sunday afternoon, monday evening and i still have no updates or gprs.....BASTARDS!!!!!!!!! (orange that is!)
