Guest Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 Hello, as far as I experienced the Qtek8080 (SPV-E200) is unable to play ringtones in MP3 format. However it is possible to play an other high-quality audio format: MP4 ! Just one thing prevents us from doing so: Having a WAV or MP3 file convert into MP4. However this can be managed very easily by applying a great freeware program (plus a free plug-in): dBpowerAMP Music Converter ! The dBpowerAMP homepage can be found at http://www.dbpoweramp.com The current version of the dBpowerAMP Music Converter is 10.1 and can be downloaded at http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm Download this tool and also install the MP4 plug-in at http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central-mp4.htm Now you can convert any MP3 (or WAV) to MP4 and use it as high-quality ringtone on your Qtek8080 (SPV-E200) Smartphone. Enjoy ! Regards Gerhard P.S. Until now I found no way of storing a ringtone on a Storage Card (SD Card), maybe this is not possible with current firmware versions. In case anyone knows how to to this and save valuable space of the phone memory please post it here !
Guest t3dluke Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 The quicktime mp4 encoder is the best, but sadly its not freeware.
Guest t3dluke Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 After some tests long files tend to have small skips in them. Since audio quality is as good if not better at low bitrates (smartphone dont support mp4 HE) I'd still advise using 32kbs mono WMA for ringtones.
Guest shadamehr Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 Mmm - I hadn't even realised the E200 could use MP4 audio files. The tune I use, Darude's "I can feel the beat" weighs in at 589K as an mp3 file. As a wma file, 96Kbs bitrate, it weighs in at 525K. And as an mp4, converted from the above mp3 file, again at 96Kbs bitrate, set at best quality encoding, using Quicktime, it weighs in at 514K. So it seems the mp4 file is the smallest by a tiny margin, and the quality of the mp4 sounds the same to my untrained ear, on a tinny mobile, as the wma file. But I would point out that as wma is a standard format to the phone, could there be any actual performance improvement/lack of overhead, for the phone to use wma over mp4?
Guest t3dluke Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 AAC (mp4 audio) is more resource intensive than wma. Also QT encoded ones seem to skip on large files, barely noticable, but clearly there.
Guest shadamehr Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 Thats what I thought too mate, in terms of the resources used. I expect wma is less resource intensive, given its in built support/native format as per Smartphone 2003 OS. If this is the case, then the tiny size increase over mp4 is more than offset.
Guest dinsey Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 Hi which file do I download to get it to change mp3 to mp4: The current version of the dBpowerAMP Music Converter is 10.1 and can be downloaded at http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm I have downloaded: mp4 & AAC Decoder 531 KB Release 2 But when I open up the convertor it only gives me options: AAC- mp4 MP3 Lame MP4-AAC Test Conversion Wave. Doesnt have mp3-mp4. Thanks for reading.
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 I think Windows Media Encoder can also encode to MP4.
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 I think Windows Media Encoder can also encode to MP4. I now disagree with myself.
Guest crafty Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 does media player recognise MP4? If not then this would be a definate bonus. It really annoys me when you're listening to music with the phone in your pocket and it starts playing your wma ringotne - i always have to check to make sure it's not vibrating!
Guest dinsey Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 Hi which file do I download to get it to change mp3 to mp4: The current version of the dBpowerAMP Music Converter is 10.1 and can be downloaded at http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm I have downloaded: mp4 & AAC Decoder 531 KB Release 2 But when I open up the convertor it only gives me options: AAC- mp4 MP3 Lame MP4-AAC Test Conversion Wave. Doesnt have mp3-mp4. Thanks for reading. So does anyone know the answer?
Guest Lifestream Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 A 96kbit wav and a 96kbit mp3pro is still the same bitrate and around the same size but sound completely different... so you can´t judge the quality because of the final size.
