Going to be recalled (Orange, UK)

Hi folks,

Yesterday I went to the Orange shop in Sheffield town centre to upgrade to a MPx200. From what I've heard they are pretty good phones and I used to have the original SPV. I asked the man in the shop if they had any in stock and he told me yes they did but he wouldn't sell me one. I asked why and he said that there is a bug with the phone, it keeps on hanging on the front screen and Orange are going to recall all the phones next week.

Does anybody know if there is any truth in this? I was amazed that he would tell me that, yet the shop still had the phones on display. Also this was the Orange shop so I guess there must be something in it. I went to the Carphone Warehouse next door and the bloke in there hadn't heard of anything, problem was upgrade price in Orange store was 49.99, CWH was 129 so I didn't get one.

Any info greatly received? I was quite sure I was going to get a MPx200, what phone should I get if they are not for sale anymore?

A friend of mine phoned up to try and upgrade his phone to the MPx200 and the woman at Orange told him the phone had been withdrawn from sale due to a bug. I haven't had any problems with mine though since I got it at the beginning of December.

First I've heard of this one :?

There have been similar rumers before about the E200 etc but they

were never factual and only rumour.

First I have heard of it as well. However you can't seem to buy the MPx200 from the Orange website anymore....

I'm on my third MPX200 and have had no problems with this one but the other two ended up with "stuck on motorola" screen, maybe orange had a huge number of handsets returned?

I'm going to ring them and find out......

UPDATE: The women i just spoke to on "150" said that she had absolutly no infomation regarding the recall or withdrawal from sale of the MPX200.

But i did just try the website and you cannot buy the mpx200 anymore (MAYBE they are upgrading current handsets to the WM2003 upgrade that should be avalable this month, or that could just be wishful thinking)

No you can't, that link takes you to a page saying that the MPx200 is coming soon to PAYG.

On a totally irelevant note has anyone played around with the 3D image of the MPx200 on the orange website? I would have thought that they would make sure that the time shown on the front of the phone would match the time on the homescreen

Hi

Re the first post, CPW will price match +10% on the orange price, I have just done it (30th Jan) on the lowest tariff (the phone cost £229.99), a very helpful salesman @ CPW, got his area boss top to agree, so I got the phone for £31.99 ~ £198 off (£180 + 10%). My phone's working great no problems, apart from the know poor battery life.

In respect of the orange site, they were having stock problems, mid Jan no stock, end of Jan when I bought mine they were showing stock. Just checked Orange website and it is not even showing it now in the phone selection list, you guess is as good as mine at present why ! :?

I upgraded a few weeks ago, in an Orange shop. The display actually said that it was WM2003, and when I questioned the "Trainer", hea explained that was a mistake, they are all WM2002.

I haven't had any problems with my phone, however before upgrading I had a look online for reviews and found loads of people that had nothing but problems (mainly people who had got the phone as soon as it come out), although this obviously didn't deter me.

One thing that bugs me is that you can't get any bloody accessories anywhere, shops keep telling me it's too new, I only wanted a leather case. I was told by several shops that they only stock accessories on new phones after they have been out for around six months (enven Orange didn't have any accessories). This is all well and good, but I work in a harsh environment for phones and a leather case ain't no good to me six months down the line when the phones scratched to f**k.

I have just spoken to Orange about a faulty (poor signal) MPX200 and they are expecting a new batch in the next few days. They did admit they have had a number of problems with locking up and poor signal.

So in theory my replacement should be ok (laughs aloud)

As far as we've been informed by the powers that be here at Orange, a non-specific power fault has been idetified with the MPX200, once Motorola sort it out we will be getting it back, so far it has not been discontinued, I'll post more info as I get it.
